UT 800 light rattles on 1030 mount

When my UT 800 light is attached to the bottom of the 1030 mount there is a bit of play there which means the light rattles.
The older but slightly shorter mount which came with the light does not have this problem
Is the underside of the new mount only designed for the battery pack and is there a compatible longer 1030 mount available for my light?
  • Just checked my 1030 mount with my UT800. There is a slight horizontal left/right rotation of the light if you force it but this also occurs with my UT800 mount. There is no up/down movement with either mount. My light does not rattle.

On one of my bikes I have a stem face plate mount for my 1000/1030 with a GoPrpo style connection underneath to which I attach a male Garmin quarter-turn adapter sourced from Ebay. I believe both were from Rec-Mounts This is where I could attach either the HL500 or UT800. Sorry...I don't remember the seller's name, but it shouldn't be hard to find

Hey John did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have noticed the same problem in the last couple of weeks with my UT800 on my 1030 mount. The thing is I am not sure whether this is new or has been like since the beginning ~6 months ago.

    Thanks
  • Even my trembling a bit, the solution is not to completely tighten the ring.

  • hey pierluto, thanks. could you please explain what you mean by 'not to completely tighten the ring'?

Do you mean the bolt or when you mount the UT800 on the 1030 mount itslelf using the quarter turn mount?
  • I have the same problem and it’s got worse the longer I’ve had it. So annoying that I’ve ditched the 1030 mount and I’m now using a K-Edge one with a GoPro style adapter. The problem is you have to use an Allen key to remove the light in order to recharge it.
I assume its just worn loose.

No, the wheel with the wings that is fixed under the support. Turning it all makes a 90 ° turn. It must be rotated about 75/80 °
  • I have the same problem with the mount for my Edge 1000. I’ve replaced the UT800 quarter turn mount but the rattle returned within a week. The mount is a faulty design in my opinion. It has too much tolerance with the outer lock ring. The rattle drive me spare!!! I am sourcing a old school universal mount but as mentioned earlier, it’s a pain to remove for recharge. A really poor effort from Garmin - they must know about the fault and are silent. They should be assisting those that have shelled out good coin for their products and replace the mounts.

Hey stolk61, exactly same experience here. Cannot believe Garmin are silent about something like this. The thing is that the rattle could be early signs of complete failure, and the UT800 falling off mid-ride will not be fun.

Someone from Garmin needs to step up here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Same for me and it’s getting worse. I’ve changed mount but it’s just the same.

Another expensive, poorly designed item from Garmin.

I ended up putting a thin plastic patch inside the mount socket to make a tighter fit
Used one of those round clear patches that you buy to stop cables rubbing on the frame
