Is it Possible to Move Activity Files from the Internal Memory to a Micro SD Card?

At first (prior to 3.40 being released??) the Edge 1030 was ignoring my request to record my activities on the installed micro SD card.

Will anything go wrong if I move those files to the SD card? Is there a procedure to follow that will allow it to work as I’d like? (Just ignore / forget the old ones, which I’d remove, and display my history and compute my stats from the .fit files on the SD card.)
• Physically, you can certainly transfer files to the micro SD card. Whether the Garmin will read those files is another question. I say this because during firmware updates on my 1000, two or three months of activities were no longer recognized by the Garmin even though they were present on the card. As a test, I would try transferring just one . FIT file to :Removable Disk\Garmin\NewFiles\ folder, restart and see if it is recognized.
• Activity files will not get imported via the NewFiles folder. Once you have configured the Edge to use the MicoSD card you can place the files directly in the Activities folder on the card.
• Thank you. I've tried it that way as well but they are not always recognized (at least on the 1000).

Sure, I knew I could move the files.

I gave it a try (using shell commands on my Mac) after making a full backup of both memory spaces. It seems to have worked with no complaints from the Edge and no apparent loss of history or stats.

Start-up was the longer / slower variety that results when you add files to the NewFiles directory, but other than that, no problem.

I remember the problem with lost activity files after an update. Someone in the Edge 1000 forum explained that the Edge 1000 will only retain 100 files. It doesn’t discard them during everyday operation once you get to 100, but in some circumstances a firmware update will trigger it to do so.
• The deletion of files occurred on my 32GB micro SD card not internal memory. It should not happen.
• It was the same for me. But clearly the 100 limit is arbitrary and not based on space available.
• The limit on older models was 200 activities.

There are limits on the number of course and segments. I believe 100 on courses. So that might be where the 100 value was coming from.
