Issues to be solved by an update

Hi,

I was an Edge 1000 owner and sold it to buy the 1030 and for now - second week of use - the only positive aspects are the battery and the screen.
I?ve got problems with
- speed sensor does not mesure the speed for a specific wheel size, only gives about 25% of the real speed.
- Language is set to a country and now the power off menu is in english while the other menus are in portuguese.
- problems with sync the activities with strava and garmin connect by phone. When it happens only works with cable and garmin express.
- The %of climbing is always wrong... but very wrong, places with 10%,15% or more appears like 5% or 6%. The 1000 was very accurate.
- When updating to the latest firmware the unit keeps shutting down after 15 or 20 seconds. I have to reset it to factory default and run the update again.

I use it for indoor cycling and all mountain. Still didn?t test it following a gpx track to see if it works like the 1000... hope that works fine.
That?s a lot of things to solve with updates and makes no sense how Garmin launch it to the market when they know for sometime that for instance de %climb gives wrong values. We shouldn?t be the "guinea pigs" for Garmin.

Very dark picture of your 1030.
-Speed sensor, I do not have any problem, I run a few rides with both 1030 and a 820 the recorded distance is the same (with wheel size set to the same value manually)
-Language set to country (french in my case) reset to english when having WIFI transfert. Similar problem with my 820. A Garmin Connect Problem?
-Sync activities; no problems with WIFI or Bluetooth sync (except language reset)
-% Climbing very unstable... I did check downhill and to my surprise it was correct on a known 12% climb.
-I did not experience problem (yet) after update to 3.4 except language reset already mentioned above.
  • The 3.4 annouces fixing of one of the problems I notice:
    - Improved Grade accuracy on steep climbs
  • I have one activity profile for commuting with stopped GPS, just relying on the speed sensor. But the auto pause function does not work in this case. The timer shows full time of the activity including stop time at traffic light.
  • Why are you disabling GPS out of interest? The 1030 will prioritise the speed sensor if available over GPS (and can use GPS distance to auto calibrate wheel size too). Without GPS you're missing a huge amount of functionality. Understand if you're on a stationary bike, but for commuting?

    Hi,

It?s a indoor bike, there?s no GPS signal there... that?s the reason. The problem it?s that with the 1000 I measure de wheel and the speed and distance are in a 5% error range.. .with de 1030 the speed and distance are about 50%...
  • Did you manually set the wheel size for that sensor. By default it will be set to automatic, which will not work correctly without a GPS signal.
  • Where can you set the wheel size auto or manually?
    thanks

    Nico
  • With the sensor connected go to and talking with the Edge

Settings (hamburger icon on the home page, bottom left) -> Sensors -> your speed sensor -> Sensor details -> wheel size
  • thanks ;),
found it, I got a garmin speed sensor, best to leave it on auto? For now i only ride outside under the sattelites :p.

On Garmin Connect there is a "Device Setting" page which has a language field. Make sure you set this one to French. I think this is the value that is pushed to your device when you sync.
