Rushed out?

Maybe just me but seeing 14 page's of nothing but problems with the 1030 in the short period of time it has been released makes it look like this should have never been released until some proper testing was done on the unit.

Went from a 520 which initially had some problems but were sorted pretty quickly and lots of updates to this one.

Just bought os maps at ?130 and unit must have reset itself about ten time's last night and I have now disabled them.

Anyone else thinking the same and wishing they had kept there previous edge computer until all the teething problems have been ironed out?
  • No, I'm not thinking the same.
I am now on my third Edge (800, 1000, 1030).
Only Edge 1000 was terrible at the beginning.
Of course, Edge 1030 has its issues, but I am very happy with it.

With no offense - but you have to consider, that many of the issues reportet in forums are situated in front of the devices.

For example: I never had a problem in pairing my iPhones - the forum is full of reported issues.
  • Think I have been relatively lucky so far as my issues have been minor. Hopefully there will be a few firmware updates coming to stabilise a little more but basically I?m happy

Sorry mcinner1 should have phrased that a bit better meant:- kept there previous edge computer until all the teething problems have been ironed out.

When it works it is great and well impressed with it but the other niggles just spoil the enjoyment.

I am sure after a few system updates these will be fixed.

As for the Bluetooth part someone confirmed to me on the phone yesterday from Garmin that they are well aware of the problems with this and are trying to resolve them just now.
  • I have not experienced any of the issues that I have seen being reported so far "knocks on wood." Having upgraded from the Edge 1000, I have seen upgrades in multiple areas.
  • I'm pretty happy with the 1030 so far. The 1st two rides were issue free. Ride three had segment issues. Ride four had BT phone connection and sensor issues. I factory reset it and ride number five yesterday was fine with no issues.

This launch is nowhere even close to the disaster the Edge 1000 was. The 1000 was a pile of junk for about 6 months.

The 1030 has a few problems but it's pretty stable for the most part. Garmin never seems to get devices right at launch and the 1030 is no different. in Garmins world, it's not bad considering past device bugs and issues at release.
  • The 1030 is my first expensive bike navigation, coming from the edge 25. I was a little afraid to buy it, with all the problems i read on this forum. But the most seems software related, so in the near future i believe they will get fixed.
But i'm also pretty happy with the 1030. No phone connections problems, most of the time it looks iphone related and i have a S7E. No sensor dropouts. I find that the navigation is working like i expected/hoped. The screen is more than ok for me, in daylight and nightrides. The batterylife seems great. The gradient (and temperature) "problem is probably also on my unit, but there are no hilly rides in my surrounding to check :) .
Answering incoming textmessages with the preinstalled answers works good, but putting in your own answers would be great.
Setting up the wifi connection was a one time problem, now when i get home it connects auto. And i had one time that the 1030 shutdown midride. I was standing still and i deleted the ongoing navigation and i loaded another route when it happened. Restarded the unit and i was back on track.

I have had the 1030 for a week, using it with eTap and all the Garmin sensors and have had no issues.

The proposition that a company would ?rush out a product without proper testing? is patently quite absurd and hardly worthy of a response. The majority of issues that people are experiencing are down to user error or not fully understanding how a complex bit of kit works. Sure there are bugs but they will be dealt with over time. Folks who are fully satisfied are generally not going to post on here and i would assume this to be the majority. I suspect this is the same with every product ever made and the constant negative internet chattering becomes rather tiresome. Best not to rush out a post without proper thinking methinks...

  • You are joking right? I seriously hope so or maybe this is your 1st Garmin?

Garmin does this all the time and it's no big secret. Many long time Garmin users are well aware that we are basically alpha testers at release. A few updates later maybe we progress to beta testers and at some point the computer becomes stable.

The Edge 810 took what, 2 years? The Edge 1000 took several months ect..

The 1030, with the 3.20 update, is probably in beta mode now and that's fine. I do think Garmin will get the bugs worked out quickly but blaming users is a bit overboard. Saying the bugs are user error or not knowing how to use it is a bit ridiculous in my opinion.

I'm rather happy with the 1030. My Samsung S8 wouldn't connect to the 1000, it is communicating very well with the 1030.

Keep in mind that in my opinion usually not all issues are related to the 1030 software, sometimes also to other devices or a wrong setup by the user, or two devices struggling with each other.
My wife has major problems with Office 365 on her I-Phone 7 for instance. It seems to be related to the recent iOS11 update. So it is not Microsoft to blame, but Apple........

And yes, I think Garmin made some changes (for example the brightness and contrast of the screen), but it will give us longer battery life.
A famous quote of Johan Cruijff once (yes, the Dutch soccer player): "Every advantage will have a disadvantage";).
