Wrong Temperature

after few days of use I've seen 1030 temp value are constantly higher than real (and 520/1000 too). This difference is about 4 'C. A little few at about 25 'C (3,5 'C), and a little more near 0'C (4,5'C). Today I put 1000 and 1030 in refrigerator and they red 5.0/9.6 'C
  • Temperature on today's ride with 3.77beta seemed to be accurate.
  • Have had 3 rides with beta 3.77 on my indoor bike. At all times, temp was right on (between 20-22 degress C - Edge placed next to a window).

Seems very good to me :)
  • For me, now with 3.77 the temperature is about 2.5 below the real temperature.
Today I did a ride and when I came back home the temperature on my edge was 1.5 °C but the real was 4.0 (temperature in my garden).

I'm happy to have opened this tread last september.
Now with beta 3.77 I can tell 1030 is aligned with other modern garmin edge (1000, 820 and 520). I've tested only in temperature range 0-10°C and now report same values of other edge

I'm curious to verify in 10-35° range, but i must wait next season
  • As far as I tested until now, at home, not ride, it is sometimes about ~1c above. But the biggest problem now it is the time that it takes to measure the Temperature and that is over 20 minutes for 1 or 2 grad. Assumed the actual temp is 15c and it start measures from 13c. It takes more than 20 minutes to show nearly 15c.
  • Yesterday I made an exit with two friends with edge 810 and edge 1000, edge + 2°C, edge 810 +1°C compared to my edge1030 FW3.77beta range temp 4/8°C

yesterday in continuos riding segment (near 2 hours) with descent, flat and uphill road I found these result:

    My Edge 1030 (3.77): min 4°C max 7°C ave 5°C
    my friend Edge 520 : min 4°C max 8°C ave 6°C
my friend Edge 1000: min 3°C max 8°C ave 6°C
other friend Edge 520: min 3°C max 7°C ave 5°C

before upgrade at 3.77 my edge 1030 was 4/5°C over my friends edge (520, 1000). With these result I can tell beta 3.77 fix problem on overstimed temperature.
I don't think we must search to super accurate instrument. 1 °C more or less don't change nothing; 4 or 5 °C as before 3.77 was unacceptable. At 3/4 or 5 °C I can think to find some ice on road, otherwise at 10°C will be difficult and in hard training I can think to remove my gloves
  • Hi Cla.fio.
Your comparison with other edge devices is interesting but all these devices underestimate temperature. A good comparison would be with a thermometer.
I done this and the result is that now with 3.77 the edge 1030 underestimate the temperature of almost 3 degrees Celcius like the edge 520 does. Last saturday my edge 1030 gave a temperature of 1 degrees but the real temperature was almost 4 degrees.

Sorry, but this tread opened because each 1030 users observed an evident overstimation. Now you say that 3.77 is a bad work. I'm confused.

My opinion is different. In my first test put 1000 and 1030 in refrigerator. 1030 red 9,6°C vs 5.0°C (1000). If refrigerator is really at near 10 °C foods can't preserve correctly; but yogurt in it is always ok even after 15 days

  • Riding to work this morning the temperature on my 1030 with 3.77 matched the forecast temp, and felt about right. Not as scientific as some of the other tests in this thread, but it does feel more accurate than my 510 which used to read a couple of degrees too low.

It does take a while to react to temperature changes, and my 510 was the same. It doesn't annoy me too much, either I leave it in the garage or put it in the fridge for a bit before I leave (or the freezer if it's really cold).
