Change Map to TalkyToaster or OpenMTBMap for MTB rides

Hi!

The original map on the Garmin Edge 1030 is unusable for MTB rides.

I want to stick with the original maps when using my road bike but switch to either TalkyToaster or OpenMTBMap when mountain biking. This includes rerouting.

1) Can I do that? Select different maps based on activity and use them for rerouting?

Currently I create routes with the excellent Komoot and want to import the created GPX to the Edge, as creating MTB routes with Basecamp sucks. The maps are not usable for mountain biking.

2) Is there a more efficient way to create MTB routes?

Thank you and cheers,

Chris
  • The Maps are now Activity Profile specific, so you can choose to enable the OpenMTBMap and disable the GarminCycleMap for the MountainBike profile.
Routing is part of the map, you'd need to make sure that the map you have is routable.
Connect is now more MTB friendly, but not perfect. I've not used Komoot so can't comment.
    I don't use BaseCamp.

Cool! Tested it and it works!

Exported GPX from Komoot also work perfectly, so I'm happy!

  • I'm curious which routable "offroad/trail" map(s) you ended up using?

IMO, the OpenMTBMap fee schedule is double what it should be, but have not found a good alternative yet.

    Hi! Sorry for the delay!

I ended up using the TalkyToaster Map - but it leads to crashes while recalculating routes. Si I am not happy :-(
