Screen won't work with gloves on

Bought the 1030 yesterday. Configured it last night. On today's ride I noticed a lot of things just don't work:

1. The screen won't respond when wearing gloves.

Swiping left and right sometimes works, but the most important thing for me is zooming the map screen. I tend to ride with this showing all the time on some rides. A tap on the screen should bring up the zoom buttons at the top of the screen, but nothing happens at all.

2. Gradient goes up to around 4% maximum, even when on 20% hills...!

3. Bluetooth sync seems to disappear, so no weather forecasting while riding. Even though calls and texts come through. How can the 1030 be connected and not connected to my phone at the same time?

4. Uploading the ride to Garmin Connect / Strava at the end of the ride doesn't work over BT either. Garmin Connect just says the 1030 'is busy'. Connecting it to my computer, Garmin Express can't see it anymore either!! Still mounts on the desktop so I can grab the .fit file.

5. Auto lapping seems to be happening while riding... annoying and very strange.

6. Is it possible to manage the stored locations? I used to use Basecamp for this, but it doesn?t seem to connect anymore. Is there another way to managed the individual saved locations? I know how to move them en-masse from one GPS device to another using locations.fit, but with BaseCamp it was great being able to manage individual locations, rename them, etc.

Taking it it back to my LBS for a refund on Monday I think. It's just not ready for use yet...

I'm not understanding this discussion. Certainly Garmin should have stated in their sales info that not all gloves will work with the 1030 but now that it is known that the screen is similar to a smartphones screens, just use gloves designed for those screens or return the 1030. I've added a small amount of conductive thread to the finger tip of some of my older gloves and they work fine.

Some body here reported having bought two. Using the same gloves in the same environment, one worked and the other didn't. I honestly believe its a QC problem, failing to ensure consistency of component and/or manufacture.
Surely the market leader would not boast of improved screen usage in gloves without first ensuring that gloves which worked with all previous edges.worked with the 1030? After all, it is in practice a downgrade in terms of usability. But then they also claimed you could use a 2tb sd card, but edge only accepts fat32 format which has a 32gb limitation. There are ways around (not that G offer any) but it is typically sloppy.
You say take it back, most retailers will go along the line of we have to return unit to garmin. What happens if garmin say it performs to spec? We're caught in the middle. Or is there a way to get Garmin to provide confirmation that gloves is a known problem and the retailer should supply 3 pairs of gloves that'll work or refund unit and any 1030 specific accessories bought.
The battery is fantastic, but apart from that I'm hugely disappointed esp with regular data corruptions

I contacted Garmin on this and they have an article addressing this issue.

    NOTE:
In order to use a capacitive touchscreen device while wearing gloves you will need to choose gloves that are compatible to use with capacitive touchscreens. Gloves that feature this design allow the use of the index finger to use the touchscreen without issue.

It does work (with every glove) when the screen is wet.
    Just lick your finger :)
