Stages PM

Anyone one using the 1030 with the Stages Power Meter? Is there a dropout issue like the Edge 820?

Has been fine for me too...
  • Are you able to put some context to your replies please? For example did you previously have problems with Stages PM's and other head units but now you do not have issues with a 1030?
Do you use an out front mount, stem mount. stupid stuff like, how big is your bike, anything in the line of sight to the head unit? All adds to the picture of transmission issues that some people are experiencing but others are not.
Also, would one of you be able to post a FIT file so we can look at the reception rates?
    Thanks
  • Previously I've used an 820 and I used to get 0W / 0 cadence moments (I sometimes do park laps and in one particular area the 820 would usually lose the Stages). While I haven't tested the 1030 + Stages that much yet, I've yet to notice any issues.

Daveymorrisuk - can't share a Fit file, but happy to share a bit of context for you.
Previously used Stages with Edge 810. Didn't ever notice any dropouts whilst riding but did occasionally have the Garmin not see the Stages at all. Hence often found myself changing the Stages battery when my battery test meter later said it the battery *capacity* (not voltage) was only down to around 70%. Never saw a battery warning level on my Edge but with one notable exception, the 70% could have correlated with the power meter being on for 200 hours. The exception was when the bike was in the car - but possible that the power meter stayed on due to the bumps. Anyway, replacing the battery always fixed that issue. I had heard some stories of lithium battery quality varying wildly, so I only ever use Panasonic or Energizer batteries in the Stages. 810 was set to sample every second, mounted on out front. Stages is v2.
1030 - according to menu it samples every second when a power meter connected. Bike size is Large, edge is mounted on the 1030 out front mount. Stages battery is new. Yes, something is in line of sight - me. I'm no featherweight, weighing in at a not-ideal-for-going-up-hills 105kg. Stages is on latest firmware.
    Hope that helps.
  • I had my Stages drop out a few times today on my ride with my new 1030. Looks like Garmin is using the same Ant+ sensor they had in the 1000. You would think they would have changed that.
