Setting Heart Rate Alerts

On all my other Garmin devices, I'm able to set a max HR alert for a specific BPM, but on the 1030 it only appears that I can set an alert for when I hit a HR training zone.

My HRmax is 200bpm, so this is where my Z5 tops out at. However, I have a condition where very occasionally my heart goes into a sort of turbo mode - it beats properly but the rate increases by about 40bpm - so one minute I can be cycling along at 175bpm and instantaneously it will suddenly jump to 215bpm. So I've always set an alert to tell me whenever it goes over my 'normal' HRmax, but on the 1030 I don't seem to have that option. All I can do is set an alert for Z5, but that's just going to keep going off during any ride so I'll come to ignore it. Am I missing something somewhere?
  • I think what you are looking for is under that activity profile.

Look under your activity profile for Alerts and there Heart Rate Alert. If you select max and then zone 5 it should only go off if you exceed the end of zone 5, which in your case is 200 bpm.

Thanks. I was assuming that if I set an alert for a zone, it would trigger if I entered that zone range rather than exceeded it? I'll give it a shot though as if that works, it's what I need.
