Phone Connection issues

My 1030 arrived. I installed the firmware update 3.2 Running Android 8 on a Google Pixel.
The phone connected at first. Sometimes it connects fine upon booting. Other times I will have to keep rebooting the 1030 to get the bluetooth to reconnect to my phone. Other times this doesn't work and I have to remove my 1030 within Garmin Connect and re-assign the device (it then shows up again and eventually runs back into connection issues). I'm not having issues connecting my phone to other devices at the moment...
I was hoping to find this may be a software thing before I think about returning / exchanging.
I'm pretty sure the 1030 is not 'Discoverable' until you remove the connection and set it back up, so I'm not sure what other troubleshooting can be done. Meaning, I don't see a way to manually connect it through Android settings without removing and reconnecting in Garmin Connect.
Has anybody else ran into this?
--EDIT-- Rebooted the Edge a few more times and it connected once again. The prevous times I left it sit for 10 minutes without connection.

Just got the Edge 1030. I've had the same problems syncing with an iPhone 7 on iOS 11.0.2. It started to sync, but couldn't finish. I did all of the suggestions above (DCR list, update, reset to factory settings, turn off WiFi, etc.). No luck. Then I just synced with my iPad (using iOS 11.0.2) and had no problems. (Yay! At least I could finish setting up my 1030!) Then I disconnected the iPad-1030 BT link and tried again with the iPhone 7 - but no luck. So for me this appears to be an iPhone/iOS 11.0.2 issue, which is a major bummer since I'm not going to lug around my iPad on bike rides!
  • Hi!

I was able to connect my iPhone 5s iOS 11.0.1 to the edge1030 but after that they don't connect automatically I have to manually connect every ride and that's not cool. Another aspect that don't work for me is AutoStart for Livetrack, this is a feature that a love on my Garmin Edge 1000, I turned on bluetooth on both devices, the connect automatically and after that I press Start on the Garmin and Livetrack worked.

I don't know if its only a problem for my phone or is something general.

  • I have suspicion that problem with BL connection to the phone could have something to do with location service on the phone. Normally I switch off GPS to save battery and I have problems to connect to Garmin Connect Mobile. Usually I had to start app and then Garmin connected. Since I switched on GPS on the phone Garmin always connects. It does not seem accidental.
  • I just tried pairing with GCM IOS again, and had major problems getting the 1030 visible on bluetooth, I tried the DCR tips and restarting both iPhone and 1030, but it didn't work. In the end I remembered someone mentioning wifi being an issue so I turned it off on the 1030 and it paired straight away with no issues. They use the same 2400MHz frequency range so maybe wifi is drowning out the weaker BT signal, who knows but I have seen BT issues with interference in the past on other devices.

    Might help...

SOLVED: New Garmin Edge 1030 3.40 Firmware update solved the connection issue for me. I can connect the iPhone 7 (with iOS 11.0.2) to my Garmin Edge 1030 without problems. The connection works both with and without WiFi connected. I'm glad to have access to the extra features that were only available if I had a live phone connection during the ride.

Hi, does anybody know why does the 1030 keeps dropping the connection to a smart phone after it tuns off.
  • Eventually solved connection issue and did the following which worked for me -
on iPhone >Bluetooth > Edge 1030 Phone>Bluetooth > select device and ?forget device?
    turn phone off.
On edge 1030> connected features >phone>pair smartphone >forget. Turn Edge 1030 off.
    turn phone on.
    Turn Edge 1030 on.
Open Garmin Connect mobile app and add Edge 1030 device from list.
    On Edge 1030 >connected features >pair smartphone
on iPhone Garmin Connect mobile select Edge 1030 and pair. Set up screen then kicked in and device paired and synced. All ok now but a pain as seems to need to be done at present with each IOS and Garmin software/firmware update!

Hi, Can anybody help with the dropping of smart phone bluetooth connection to the Garmin 1030. I have paired it with the new update version 3.4 & once the unit goes to sleep the connection is dropped. I have rebooted the unit and paired it again, this does not solve the problem as the unit or the phone go to sleep the connection is dropped. Ofcouse once rebooted one looses all the personal settings, paired sensors and all the data screens have to be set up again. Come on guys In Garmin do something about it, this is a ?500.00 unit put out in the market and has fault.
  • It is definitely the case that the BT connection is completely unreliable with WiFi on and that in any case the GC Mobile app must be active on the phone to connect at all. Unsatisfying. The earlier models -- 810 for instance just worked flawlessly.

Has anybody else started having connection issues today?
Yesterday I was fine (Android 6) but this morning I can't connect despite trying everything short of a full reset.
The 1030 can't seem to see the phone although the phone does see the 1030 (firmware 3.5)
