Phone Connection issues

My 1030 arrived. I installed the firmware update 3.2 Running Android 8 on a Google Pixel.
The phone connected at first. Sometimes it connects fine upon booting. Other times I will have to keep rebooting the 1030 to get the bluetooth to reconnect to my phone. Other times this doesn't work and I have to remove my 1030 within Garmin Connect and re-assign the device (it then shows up again and eventually runs back into connection issues). I'm not having issues connecting my phone to other devices at the moment...
I was hoping to find this may be a software thing before I think about returning / exchanging.
I'm pretty sure the 1030 is not 'Discoverable' until you remove the connection and set it back up, so I'm not sure what other troubleshooting can be done. Meaning, I don't see a way to manually connect it through Android settings without removing and reconnecting in Garmin Connect.
Has anybody else ran into this?
--EDIT-- Rebooted the Edge a few more times and it connected once again. The prevous times I left it sit for 10 minutes without connection.
  • It may not be an acceptable long term solution, but at this stage I'm just trying to suggest something to help identify why the issue is intermittent.
  • I have not had any disconnect issues so far (only two rides). I have a Samsung s7e and I have left the Connect app running each time (I though I had to, I am new to fancy GPS units). I will run the experiment on the ride home tonight of not running the Connect app to see if that changes the behavior. I do not have WiFi enabled on my 1030 (not sure why I would need this feature on a day to day basis). Just another data point.
  • Appreciate the troubleshooting assist.

The app really needs to be left loaded and running

When I first read your suggestion I thought "why would the app being open, make a difference...surely it works on the underlying BT connectivity between the phone's BT applets and the 1030 BT". Then, I thought...lemme close the app on the phone. The 1030 did not disconnect. Then, I went to Settings/Applications and force-stopped the GC app (so as per usual, even though Android said it was closed, it was actually still running). Well...the moment I killed it, the 1030 disconnected ! Wooah....did not expect that, so perhaps you are onto something here.
IIRC correctly, older devices, simply wanted the BT pairing to be done outside of GC. Don't remember having to do it in the app itself.

Anyhow, next time I get a non-connection, I will see if launching the app resurrects the connection (maybe the apps crashed silently )
  • My edge won?t connect at all via iOS 11. Took me half an hour trying different things and in the end have had to pair with my iPad Pro instead. By the way think the 1030 is a great device

I didn't think it necessary being a new device, but doing a factory reset seems to have resolved my connection issues. Maybe a reset needs to be done after the 3.2 update.
  • ztbishop - I think mine enforced a factory reset after the 3.2 firmware update anyway. I remember posting in here earlier, when I got my 1030, stating people might want to update the firmware before configuring things. I spent 30 mins playing with settings, got the update....then it wiped out my settings and I lost 30 mins of my life for no reason !
  • aweatherall - that didn't take long before I turned my 1030 and found....no BT connection to my phone - in fact, it was the very next ride. So, launched the Garmin Connect app on my Samsung S8, and after 5 seconds ..."beeeep" and Phone Connected notification. So, the intermittent nature, seems to be whether the app is running, closed or crashing, but for sure, I don't purposely close it.
Android Marshmallow and Nougat optimize and kill apps automatically to save power...so I have just disabled that for the Garmin Connect app from that "optimisation", so hopefully it will not kill it now ! Let's try that :)

My 1030 will not connect to IOS11, tried all the suggested fixes above!

Same here. Just got my Edge 1030 and it will not connect. I upgraded to the latest firmware, I deleted the phone on the Garmin, I deleted the Edge 1030 on my bluetooth menu. When I go to connect, the Garmin says that "There might be a problem" or "The Phone cannot be found." I reset the phone, I reset the Garmin. No avail. Please help!

I'm having the same connection issues with my iPhone 7, I tried DCR's tips multiple times to no avail. Please fix this Garmin!
