- Screen seemed much crisper than the 1000. I have to note I have a screen protector on the 1000 that may dull things but the choice of fonts on the 1030 seemed less bulky. Sounds trivial but made the screen easier to read. Screen shot attached.
- The new segment screen is nice. I hit a segment today where I improved by personal best. Once I was running ahead of my best it added to the screen the segment leaders time. Was nice to see both.
- Edge will connect with the Varia HUD however the Varia will stop updating fields randomly. You can still swipe between screens they are just not updating. Rebooting the HUD and connecting fixed it the first time however after the second timed I could not connect. In addition, when it was working the grade on the HUD was wrong, would say negative when I was climbing at times and values seemed to max out at +/- 2%.
- With the start/stop and lap buttons moved to the perimeter of the unit I found it hard to hit the lap button with the unit mounted to my K Edge mount. Going to pull the Garmin mount out and look to see if it gives more clearance. You can see the clearance in the photo somewhat.
- The new performance summary screen is a nice progression from the 1000. Although it did say I needed 72 hours to recover from my not so hard 22 mile ride this morning. I think I recall reading something that it takes a few rides for the unit to fine tune its calculations to your body.
- Did not try to navigate anywhere today however I did play with that the other night while in the car and had things set to car driving mode. Unit did not want me to be on the freeway/highway. Hopefully the road bike profile has more success. The 1000 would drive me nuts by always trying to take me on the most obscure back roads with lots of turns when there was a viable road that was more direct.
