I wanted to get some waypoints onto the 1030. It seemed to go ok, there was even a .fit file in the NewFiles folder. Unfortunately, the 1030 will no longer boot. For a while, when I powered it on all I would see was the Garmin logo but no text about loading maps or any other status. I held the power for 10 seconds to turn it off, reset it, and it still only shows the Garmin logo. Worse, I cannot actually turn it off. It powers down but restarts no matter how briefly I hold the power button. Holding the button down while it reset twice finally got the text "loading courses...". It has been on that for a number of minutes now. I cannot power it off, it will not boot, and it will not mount as a drive on my computer. I guess I will just wait for the power to drain and see if it resets. I guess it will be going back.
Do a hard rest if you can. Hold down both buttons whilst rebooting the Edge. Release them after the beep (I think that's the E1K procedure but you might want to google it to be sure)
Yes, that is the reset procedure but it didn't work. It turns out that I had to hold both buttons (harder to do now that they are on the bottom) while holding the power key until it booted a few times. When I just released them after the first beep it didn't do anything. Holding all three until it rebooted and beeped three times (then releasing the power button first) seems to have finally done a hard reset. Thanks for the suggestion as it got me to try a longer set of reboots rather than wait for the battery to drain.
My 1030 is totally dead. I've tried all kinds or rests and I'll get is the screen to flicker. I was on a ride and was looking at the live segment and was trying to get out of it and it just die.
