Garmin Swim 3 ???

Swim 2 is almost 4 years old now.
Is it expected Garmin Swim 3 to be released  soon ?
Is there  any info about that?
We wait for such device with new hardware and improved accuracy and functionality.

  • Touchscreen is no issue for me during training in the water. You have to start a swim activity and it reduces or removes the touch screen sensibility. But yes, when there is no activity, it will switch randomly to any functions, as I experience often under the shower.

  • Vivoactive 6 is not best opition for swimming. It has some basic metrics, but missing workouts, drills logging and other important swimm fields. Your best options are:  Forerunner 265 (Oled screen), Forerunner 165 (Oled screen), Forerunner 255,  Swim 2, Forerunner 55 (no workouts, no open water)

  • thanks, did you fill in them in order of preference for swimming?

  • if i was in your situation i would choose forerunner 165 - it has almost all swimming features and bright oled screen (but that means more battery consumption too) or if you don't like the oled then forerunner 255 (best battery, screen is always on, but not so bright). Garmin swim 2 is still good option, but hardware is old and battery is not very ok.

  • but the 256 is the sole one that has the most recent sensor, right? 165 and 255 have an older one if I'm not wrong

  • Yes, that is true.
The Garmin Forerunner 265 is equipped with Garmin's latest Elevate V5 heart rate sensor, offering enhanced accuracy and additional features such as ECG capabilities and atrial fibrillation detection. In contrast, the Forerunner 165 utilizes the previous generation Elevate V4 sensor, which, while reliable, lacks these newer functionalities.
Also 265 is bigger and weights more. Battery life is about the same. Both have touchscreens. But 265's price is 200$ higher than 165's.

  • does this mean that 265 can perform ECG analysis? I thought not, it seems it is not among the capable devices

  • To those asking about the contradicting looking-better-brighter-saving-battery, this might help.

I am using the FR165 for swims and so far, it hasn't been a problem but my body has been a problem so I don't really know if it is as lasting as what it used to be.  I am happy with the FR165 (can download the data) and has GPS and everything upgraded from Swim2 that I have the Swim2 charged regularly (like once every half year) but never got back to using it.  I cannot imaging that they would release a Swim3 given my experience with FR165 and even another older model FR935.  That one, on Ultratrac, has gotten me through enough hours of swim and provided me with enough details that Swim2 can never compare to.

Swim2 was great (I didn't know how many laps I was doing in a 4 hour swim in the pool and I lose count after 20+) but every thing that connects to Garmin's app was revolutionary after that.

Data from 2018 in the Connect app (and how I remembered it was a FR935) and nothing from Swim2 (or maybe I have forgotten where it goes to) https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2588700026
