Satellite Image Shows Toronto Canada to Africa for my 3 km Open Water Swim???

Just wondering if anyone else has this issue. I swim FS only and distance pacing and heart rate info seemed reasonable but no picture of where I swam. Happened last Saturday morning and again yesterday (Aug 8th). Had contacted Garmin support and after looking into it they said it was a one off and would probably never happen again. Swam same area but stayed close to the beach on Wednesday and all was good. Pictures showed accurate picture of where I swam. Now I too am going to go back to swimming with 910 as well for backup! Seems I am not alone. I will contact Garmin again this week and hopefully they can help me extract the actual route I swam - it was a new personal best into uncharted waters (for me) so really wanted to see my course. Reason I bought this watch was for the better GPS in openwater swimming than my 910 Forerunner.

  • That is a bug, but don't worry, all of your swim data is there. Zoom into your swim, and you will find the full track of your swim. This is caused by some GPS signal anomaly (loss?). In that case the map goes to zero point ( 0°00'00.0"N 0°00'00.0"E ). I also reported it to Garmin, and they answered that they are investigating the issue.

If you load the same loag to strava, or any other 3rd party app, or check it with GC mobile, everything is good, and no sign to wards the equator.

Thank You!!! That made my day. I zoomed in (alot) and yes it shows my actual course so I am happy :-) Actual view was as I expected but there is some satisfaction to seeing it - that's one of the main reasons I have the watch. So now I guess I'm probably not going to need to bring my 910 after all.

  • This bug ocurred with firmware update to vers. 2.40.0.0 for my Swim 2.
Since then every open water swimming ends up in the gulf of guinea. ;-(
Inside the garmin connect android app and on strava the track is displayed correctly.
Thus it seems to be a strange incompatibility between  the current version of the garmin connect web app and firmware version 2.40.0.0 of Swim 2.

  • In V2.3 the tracks also looked much cleaner.
Since 2.4 there are som backward jumps in my tracks.

The good tracks are important for me, and the reason i baught the SW2.
I may switch back to V2.3.

Well just an update.....I've given up using the "new" Swim 2 watch for open water until they fix the bug. I don't use other app's and the whole idea of continuing with Garmin products was to have a seamless addition to my gamin connect data. that I've used for almost 10 years.

When I look at the quick/detailed view on Garmin Connect I don't really want to see me swimming across the ocean and yes if I zoom in I can find my actual route but it still looks weird with huge lines through the swim area where it heads to point 0.

Right now I'm back to using the Forerunner 910 as so far it seems more reliable as long as I maintain freestyle and if I tread water for a short 15 to 20 seconds I know to keep my watch at/above the surface.

At least I'm not the only person having this issue....as for in the pool not sure why it can't tell the difference between the strokes but it doesn't seem to. I do all 4 and it only shows free style and ***.....when I have time I may call support to see if it is something I need to program for.
