Tide information would be a really useful widget

As an open-water swimmer, I'm finding that the Garmin 2 is a fantastic device for tracking. The weather widget is even somewhat useful for planning swims.

But one of the most essential conditions to know about before going for a swim in the ocean or a bay are tide and current conditions.

It would be fantastic if Garmin offered a tides & currents widget. For the user's chosen location, a widget like this could display the current tide level, next high/low tide, and optimally even currents.

This data is possible to compute, or to look up from any number of public websites and data feeds.

Such a widget would increase the utility of the Swim 2 and also help improve the safety of swimmers using it.

Anyone else interested in this widget idea? Tides would be super useful for convenience & safety in open water swimming!

  • It is a really good idea, but it is up to Garmin if they implement it. Please report them as a new idea, maybe they will consider it.

However if the tide information is available from various internet resources, I would better rely on them than the Garmin source.

(I live in the middle of dry land, so for me tide information is irrelevant, lakes are much safer from this point of view. However on vacation tide information would be life saving)
