How to enable stroke type detection in pool swim?

I have done lap swim with different strokes tonight for an hour (about 40 laps in a 25-yard pool).  Stroke detection is turned on on my GS2.  However, none of my stroke types got recorded.  Is there a separate option to be turned on in order to identify stroke types (and not just stroke counts)?

By the way, I am working on a science project trying to correlate my underwater heart-rates with my stroke types so I hope these data will be made available in Garmin Connect.

*** UPDATE *** Actually the stroke types have been recorded and can be viewed in Garmin Connect.  However, only the Avg HR and Max HR are calculated based on the entire hour of lap time.  What's the best/easiest way that I can start/stop to capture each stroke type so the Avg HR and Max HR can be calculated for each stroke type?

  • Try recording stages with different stroke types as separate intervals. Perhaps the interval summary will contain HR data summary as well.

Oh, and as a sidenote, one more advice. Be careful when doing any science on HR data comming from an optical sensor.
