FR970 vibrating without any reason

Today my FR970 started vibrating out of nowhere. I didn't have any alarms set and there was no incoming call. None of the buttons would stop it. It finally stopped after about two minutes, only when I accessed the menu to change the watch face.

Anyone with the same problem? Any idea?

Thank you

  • Hello,

I had the same problem like 5 minutes ago. Just after I woke up. It happened just after I closed the night recap stuff.

It stopped after couple of minutes.

    Have a good day

  • This has also happened to me 2 times. One the first occasion I had to power off and re-start the device. On the second, it stopped by itself after about a minute.

    1. Had the same issue on 2 runs and a walk. Had to pause and resume activity to stop it
  • I haven't had any issues for a while. After updating to 15:52, it reappeared during a run. It kept vibrating. The workaround is to pause the activity and continue it. And during the same activity, I suddenly lost the connection with my Stryd. I don't know if there's a link.
But generally, the watch is stable. I always run with music, a heart rate monitor, and the Stryd Duo. So, quite a few connections. It's a shame, though, that these kinds of issues still occur, Garmin. Hopefully, the next update will be even more stable.

  •       Thank you all for voicing your concerns. I'd like to look further into this so we can figure out what's happening and help find a resolution. I realize that some of you already provided specific information about your experience, but I'd like to ensure that we're gathering consistent details from each of you. When you're able, please leave another comment with the following:

    • Does the screen exhibit any specific behaviors when this happens?
    • Have you worn your watch while swimming or showering in recent months?
    • How often does this occur? (Daily, weekly, monthly, etc.)
    • Around what date did you first notice this happening?
    • What were you doing when this happened? (Recording an activity, regular daily use, not wearing the watch, etc?)
    • What caused the vibrating to stop? (Did it stop on its own? Did you press specific buttons? Etc.)

  •  Does the screen exhibit any specific behaviors when this happens? - No, screen is normal
    • Have you worn your watch while swimming or showering in recent months? - Yes, every week to swim but this happened on my new 970 before taking it for swim
    • How often does this occur? (Daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) - Randomly now and again.
    • Around what date did you first notice this happening? - Started wearing my watch on 9th Jan and it's been since then.
    • What were you doing when this happened? (Recording an activity, regular daily use, not wearing the watch, etc?) - walking, running and sometimes just adjusting a setting (I have a video of it happening but too big to load in here).
    • What caused the vibrating to stop? (Did it stop on its own? Did you press specific buttons? Etc.). - Either pause and restart activity or if not in an activity, hold the light button down to open controls menu

  • Thanks for looking into this.

    • Does the screen exhibit any specific behaviors when this happens?

    No, screen is normal.

    • Have you worn your watch while swimming or showering in recent months?

I have not swum or showered with this watch.

    • How often does this occur? (Daily, weekly, monthly, etc.)

It used to occur a couple of times a week.  It would happen sometimes, but not every time (I'm guessing maybe 10% or less) as a result of a pace alert, a new lap or structured workout interval alert, or a performance condition update (that thing that happens a few minutes into a run that says something like +2).  It hasn't happened at all in the last few weeks.

    • Around what date did you first notice this happening?

I reported this on another thread for the first time on Dec 30. It probably first happened a week or so before that.

    • What were you doing when this happened? (Recording an activity, regular daily use, not wearing the watch, etc?)

It happens to me during a run activity.  For me, the activity includes a structured workout.  I'm not sure the structured workout is required, but it does increase the chances of a pace alert.  I also run with music streaming from the watch (Spotify).

    • What caused the vibrating to stop? (Did it stop on its own? Did you press specific buttons? Etc.)

It stops when there is another reason to vibrate.  That could be the next time it vibrates on its own at the end of a lap, at the end of an interval in a structured workout, or another pace alert.  The easiest way to turn it off manually is to bring up the music menu, which activates the brief haptic feedback.

I reported this as a bug to Garmin support, but I was told that in order for an investigation to happen, I would need to record a video from the start of my activity to include when it occurs and when it stops.  Since it happens randomly (often not at all), this is impractical.  I can't keep a camera pointed at my watch during my entire run workout.  I'\d be happy to do more debugging, experimentation, and reporting for you, but it has to be practical.

  • I had this happen again when about to start a run activity this morning. Clicked into acttivites>run watch started vibrating and didn't stop until I backed out of the activity to the watch face.
