Indoor Bike Route Not Loading

My Forerunner 970 update version, ladt version.

After selecting the indoor cycling option, it recognizes all sensors without issue. After selecting the "Create Route" option, the watch restarts itself and, unfortunately, fails to load the route. All maps are loaded, and the same thing happens even if I create a different route. Attached is the video.

  • Yes, sure. And it is very successfull and funny. If you have smart trainer.

Unfortunately my new 970 is not working so I go ahead with my old friends 955

  • @Garmin-Kevin Could you hear to we please. I haven't done bike work out at previous night

  • When you sholud fix this problem dear Garmin family?

  • Hello Garmin Support Team,

I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding the Garmin Forerunner 970 and to initiate a return process.

I have been a long-term Garmin user for many years and have used multiple models across both the Fenix and Forerunner series, including Forerunner 935, 955, and several Fenix generations. I am therefore very familiar with Garmin’s ecosystem, usability standards, and expected stability.

Unfortunately, my experience with the Forerunner 970 has been deeply disappointing.

Compared to the Forerunner 955, many basic and previously reliable functions are either missing, restricted, or significantly less intuitive. More critically, there are serious stability issues related to map handling. During map uploads and indexing, the device frequently freezes or crashes. These problems are widely reported by other users on Garmin forums, yet there appears to be no clear acknowledgment or resolution timeline communicated by Garmin.

I did not purchase this device to act as a beta tester. Given the regression in usability compared to the Forerunner 955 and the unresolved software instability, the product does not meet reasonable expectations for a flagship device at this level.

Due to these reasons, I would like to formally request the initiation of the return and refund process for my Forerunner 970.

Please advise on the next steps required to proceed.

    Kind regards,

  • I'm almost ready to give up on the 970 too. I sent some files to Garmin support to investigate the issue with not being able to use saved routes for indoor rides, but it's taking them a while to come back with an answer.  Very frustrating experience with this watch.

  •  You can explore return for refund options with your local dealer or Garmin store from where the watch was purchased. We do have an open support ticket for this issue that I can add you to if you'd prefer to do that.

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your response.

I understand that return and refund options are handled through the local dealer, and I will explore that route separately if needed. In parallel, I would like to be added to the existing support ticket you mentioned.

However, I would like to clarify my intention in joining this support group.

I am willing to participate only if this ticket represents an active effort toward a permanent resolution, and not merely a passive notification list. I have been using Garmin devices for many years across both the Forerunner and Fenix series, and I am very familiar with expected system behavior, regression detection, and reproducible issue reporting.

If this issue is being actively investigated, I would be glad to support the Garmin ecosystem by contributing:

    Clearly defined reproduction steps

    Structured test cases

Observations from real-world usage (particularly around map uploads and indexing)

My goal is not only to resolve my own case, but to help ensure a stable and reliable outcome for other users experiencing the same problem.

Please let me know whether this ticket involves active troubleshooting and whether user-provided test cases are being considered as part of the resolution process.

    Kind regards,

    Volkan
