Using a PacePro strategy freezes my watch entirely at some point during my run

Kind reader,

My name is Pieter-Bas and I am having some difficulties using the PacePro strategy on my Forerunner 970. I have experienced this problem three times now, 100% of the times I used a PacePro strategy. Once when I did a trial for a race, once during that race and today doing a trial for the half marathon I am doing next Sunday. So I think you'll understand I am hoping for a fix (or workaround) before Sunday.

Now onto the problem. While using a PacePro strategy somewhere around during the run my watch freezes completely, only "fix" is to reboot the watch. After which the PacePro strategy is no longer active, I have a gap in my GPS data (straight line on the map) and missing all other statistics (HR, step loss, etcetera, etcetera). As said earlier this happened 100% of the times I did a run with a PacePro strategy.

Maybe good to mention is that I have my ear buds and HRM 600 connected at the time as well and I am listening to Spotify using my watch. If there is any other relevant information I could provide please let me know. I am a developer myself, so there's a chance I could answer some more technical questions. Looking forward to any kind of reaction!

Kind regards,

Pieter-Bas

  • In my experience, you have three options to avoid the problem:

    • Don't use PacePro
    • Don't use Music
    • Use a different watch (965 is much better)

I think, the 970's software (even the beta version doesn't say anything better) is currently unable to run the aforementioned tools simultaneously and will eventually reach a point where something overflows and crashes.
