Have to unlock phone to make a call

I had this working after first receiving my 970 but it broke a few updates ago.

I have the lock screen settings enabled but when I use assistant from the watch I'm prompted to unlock the phone, so the assistant feature is absolutely useless.

Does anyone know the magical settings combo to get this to work?

Android using Google assistant.

It could be that your Google Assistant is not enabled on your lock screen: Setting Up Voice Assistant on Your Garmin Watch

Set Google Assistant as your default voice assistant.
Enable Google Assistant on your lock screen.
- Get Google Assistant on your Android lock screen.
Add your watch as a Trusted Device for Smart Lock (optional).
- Choose when your Android phone can stay unlocked.

Thanks for the reply, yes, of course I tried setting google assistant as default, and setting up the proper lock screen settings, but it never works. Oddly, changing the default to Gemini and setting up the Gemini lock screen settings does work and you don't have to unlock the phone to text or to make a call, but there is a lot of static during the call when using Gemini, whereas with GA there is no static.

I did go ahead and make the watch a trusted device. I didn't want to do that, especially since I've seen this work correctly before so it should work now.

It works after setting it up as a trusted device, but hopefully Garmin will fix this in the future as this was, and still is, a highly touted feature of the watch and it simply doesn't work.
