12.70 rebooting when trying to reset activity settings

It's just a minor issue with the new FW that I found, but as the title suggests, when I try to reset all settings for an activity, the watch resets.

I get to see the confirmation screen, but after this follows a quick reboot (blue triangle)

I can confirm that this occurs on multiple activity profiles, but not on all (I assume some issue with GPS):

affected profiles: extreme-obstacle run, open water swim, squash, rucking, (...?)
not-affected profiles: meditation, field hockey (...?)

That's everything I was willing to test, but if you need more information, you are allowed to contact me.

EDIT (!) I just noticed that now (after the night) some of the translations of the activity profiles are missing.
I've set my watch to german and "Extremhindernislauf" became "obstacle racing" (or is missing now), "Freiwasser" became "open water" and it seems that even some profiles like triathlon are missing (see video)

  • Hello,

    Are you able to get a video of the watch resetting in the sequence you told me above? I do see the video with the missing translations, showing in English when they should show in German still. I assume this is after all the resetting/rebooting?

  •  Here is a video of the following problems:

    - partly wrong/missing translations
    - missing triathlon and swim/run multisport profiles
    - reboot/crash when factory resetting an activity profile with an estimated probability of 70% (mountaineering was the 2nd take of the video, also happened with rucking in the 1st - I obviously don't want to try on profiles I use/customized)

    *In the first take, I tried rucking, which also crashed, and it was clear that despite the crash, the profile wasn't even reset because I had entered 5kg weight before, and this weight is still set after the crash.

    Edit: crash/reboot takes about 1min, if this information is important

  • Thank you! I am not able to recreate the reboot/crash on my FR970 running 12.70. I can however see that my pack weight for rucking is still set as what I put for it before I restored defaults. I assume that should be reset back to picking my pack weight after restoring the whole activity profile. However! I was able to get it to crash on mountaineering. I can't get it to crash on Run or Walk or Cycling weirdly so I did try other profiles. I won't try them all of course because there are so many but I assume there has to be more that will crash. Do I have permission to email you?

    To add: I cannot reproduce the crash over and over again however. I just tried to reproduce it a second time on Mountaineering and it restored defaults just fine.

  • "good" to hear that not just my watch is affected.

    In my case it differs how often I can reproduce it, so I tried again with a "fresh" profile, hunting:

    1st reset -> crash,
    2nd reset -> no crash,
    proper shutdown and new boot up of the watch,
    3rd reset -> crash,
    4th reset -> crash,
    from now on the german translation is gone and it's name is "Hunt" instead of "Jagen",
    5th reset  -> crash,
    6th reset -> no crash,
    proper shutdown and new boot up of the watch,
    7th reset -> no crash,
    8th reset -> crash,
    9th reset -> crash
    10th reset -> crash
    11-13th no more crashes

    That's enough testing for me, I'm not a Garmin employee. Maybe you can draw some helpful conclusions from my error log.

    As said in the initial post, you can email me and I'm willing to help, but please, with limited effort.
    Seems like 12.70 is a community project instead of a stable firmware release.
