Course Navigation - Slow and unresponsive for Trail Running

I recently switched from Apple WU to Garmin FR970 for two main reasons. Battery life for Gps Activity and Gpx navigation especially for trail running courses.. It's the latest model but it seems like it's very laggy, I understand it's a detailed map, but I missed 2 turns on my last run and that's a deal breaker for me.. It might be okay for walk / hike, but not for running.. Is there a way to make it responsive? I don't need to see street names etc.. I tried to make map details in low setting but I don't know what else to do.. It's working smooth in other brand's more affordable models...

  • FR970 is very under clocked/throttled, that's why battery life is around 7 days (in my case with 2 hr gps, 6 days a week), mine also suffers when i do base training in Z2, the watch is set to notify me when heart beat is around 131 bpm, but it does when my hb is around 140/5, also tried to set it to notify me at max 125bpm and min at 120, but it still notifies me way too late Disappointed , unfortunatly, the 970 lags in a lot of other areas like the case you mentioned.

  • I see, tbh I can't complain about battery life as I'm switching from Apple, but not a massive difference when you activate always on display, all satellites etc.. But I would expect it to be responsive and reliable as it's the latest up to date triathlon watch for the T100's and Ironman's elite athletes rely on, right?

  • I have the same experience. Several times facing problem at shop, during naviagation at cash register, not possibe to activate NFC, very unpleasant => looking for another option to pay. Any button reacting. Started reacting after 1 minute out of shop:(.
