I owned a Forerunner 245 for 4 years. My race predictions always were pretty aggressive, but on really good days those where times I could at least get somewhat close to.
Since a few days I switched to the new Forerunner 970. What a nice watch! But... I noticed a sudden change in my predictions.
At first I saw that on the watch itself the predictions changed, but inside the connect app it still was the same as before. Now after 2 more days the connect app also changed to the predictions from my watch.
The prediction changed like this:
5k: 17:28 to 18:12
10k: 36:50 to 38:29
Half: 1:21:42 to 1:24:35
Marathon: 2:59:55 tot 3:04:04
I find this a bit strange, since I am in the middle of a more intensive training period with higher mileage. Even my VO2 Max went from 61 to 62. So why, with the new watch, did al my times change for the worse? If any it should have improved.
Is this because the 970 measures more metrices, is more accurate, and the slower times are the more accurate ones?
EDIT: added a picture so you can see the sudden change in all prediction right after I started the new watch
