Any update coming? 34 days without SW support or Garmin reply.

Hello Garmin,

Is it typical to release a new watch with bugs and then go 27 days without updates, a beta program, or any form of communication? I recently switched from the Epix Pro Gen 2 due to its limited feature support, expecting the new model to receive frequent updates and new features.

However, the reality has been somewhat disappointing. Version 6.17 was released 27 days ago, but it hardly addressed any issues reported in forums, such as phone assistant crashes and activity crashes. Since then, there has been no communication or beta software testing from Garmin, despite the instability of the current software.

I'm concerned about the situation. The FR970 seemed to be a very popular watch, but the current lack of software support could negatively impact its reputation.

I’m returning my 970. Lovely watch but it’s totally unacceptable that you can’t do a run without it crashing when you save the activity. Bugs galore and no timeframe when an update is coming. It’s been nearly one month Rage

  • Even though there's always issues with new releases this one seems to be more extreme then others...

Owning a 955 solar (and having gone through many bugs/issues with that one as well) I am very interested in the 970 but so far I'm glad I haven't bought it yet. Especially crashes surrounding/when saving activities?! The CORE functionality of these watches.. come on.

They'll surely be fixed, but shouldn't be in there in the first place... And the lack of fixes so far, oof. I always feel the forerunners are a bit of a less popular child for Garmin, the fenix and epix lines get very regular and quick updates it seems and the forerunner, so so. They DO get supported and updates, but less and further in between.

I'm sure I can't resist in the end (waiting/hoping for a good deal, but can take some more weeks or even months maybe and that's a blessing in disguise here) but disappointing none the less.

  • You did great, I blame myself for buying it - now I am out of 30 days return window... This behavior to users from Garmin starting pissing me off, yesterday evening I was watching Polar and Coros reviews, thinking about migration... But you know, its huge step, while you have full Garmin portfolio (Scale, HRM, family members ...).

There is no benefit of buying new watch from Garmin - when you count that Garmin watch does not hold its price and drops it very quickly - I bought new watches for full price, and for that price I am alpha software tester for Garmin... If I waited an year, I would buy same watches for 40% reduced price, with optimized software. I really blame myself for buying new garmin watches...

So stay strong and don't buy it now, you will have same feelings as me, and that is not correct for buying new product.

  • Hello,

are you able at least tell us in what stage are firmware updates for FR970 now and approximately time horizont when we can get it with first bundle of main fixes, like phone assistant etc.? Days, weeks, months?

Only one report of Garmin is that's team knows about the issues - that's one site or coin, second site of coin is the truth - did team already started to resolve the problem?

What's the time plan for our watch, please kindly share details, ask the team, communicate with us (if possible - transparently, without sweetness).

Many of users are returning the devices because of SW, you are loosing customers, tell that to management. How is possible to release a device without ready IT team for first hot fixes?

Well, Garmin Support just told me to return the watch. Lovely customer service, which i did!. I hope it’s not the first.

  • Returned mine today too.  Had a look at the Venu X1 interesting device but couldn't handle the 2 buttons.

Even the X1 has the beta. Absolutely shocking that the 970 has been forgotten. After many years I’m now finished with Garmin. Customer care is nonexistent. Amazfit Balance 2ThinkingWink

  • Don't think it's been forgotten they are just clearly having trouble fixing the issues.

Amazfit balance is a poor man's Garmin I watched a video and there are too many missing features.

  • I agree, obviously they released many devices but they over capacity with supporting them... It's absolutely not correct, surely they will one day fix it... But it's really unlucky, huge impact on customer feeling, etc. No benefits for them or us either.....

  • Certainly got me paying more attention to other brand's devices now.
