Elevation reading high

Seem to be getting big differences on elevation climbed between my 970 and my wahoo element roam, anyone having the same problem?

  • I don’t thing it’s 970s specific, generally I see garmin watches showing higher elevation than wahoo or garmin bike computers. I have bolt v2 and 970, even yesterday bolt showed 1800m elevation climbed and 970 2000m and I trust wahoo more on this matter.

  • Do you always get higher readings on the watch comparing to anything else?

  • How do the watch readings compare to professional survey data (if you plot the route on strava / mapmyrun / rungo etc)? Possible the wahoo might be incorrect and watch correct?

That said, my FR970 had a dodgy altimeter and I've literally just dropped it to my local garmin returns depot today for the warranty replacement. My elevation was ALL OVER the show, even on routes I've run plenty, with at least 2 other Garmin Forerunner models, so I know the elevation super well on those). So that's another possibility for your issues. Out of interest, what's your temperature sensor and power data like during a run? Mine was all over the shop too, but only when GPS was active (same for altitude - only bonkers when GPS on)...

  • Yes. And as I said it’s not just 970. My friends have 255, 265, 965 and elevation gain is always higher on their watches. If you upload activity to Strava there’s an option to recalculate elevation gain by Strava/gps and it’s always closer to wahoo than garmin watch. Personally I don’t care but I’ve noticed the difference.
