Used a FR 955 until a month ago when I upgraded to the FR 970. Since then, during almost every pool swim the 970 has missed lengths and gives me the wrong distance for an interval. Did not have this problem with the 955 and have not changed my swimming technique. Yes, I've read Garmin's document about a strong push off and a long glide.
