Track Detection Setting

I noticed something on the Forerunner 970 that I don’t remember seeing on the 965 under the run activity settings, there’s an option called Track Detection. Does anyone know what this actually does? Does it automatically put you into Track Mode or something?

  • This is actually really great, was missing this feature before!

There may be an error with elevation. In the activity it is fixed for the whole time on the track, but not in reality.

For calculating correctly the watch needs to know which lane I'm running. Is the setting read from the Track Run activity settings as you can not set this in the running activity settings?

  • Great! I was running outside of the track with enabled Track Detection.
But I lost some km due to I was not running in the track.

Is there a way to fix that (recalibrate afterwards maybe?)

  • What I've noticed twice now on track runs with my ne 970 is that it detects the track and I start meandering around it with no real goal or pace, usually in lane 8 and it's coming up slightly short with a much slower average pace than when I am running on the roads, enough for me to notice and actually come on here and see if it's an issue. Now that I now I'm supposed to calibrate it and pick the actual lane after 4 laps, I'll see if that somehow re-aligns everything.

  • What if the track is unknown and the watch triggers track detected even though it is not calibrated for it? Yesterday it switched to track mode automatically when I was still on the street parallel to the track and kept measuring 1k’s at 3:37 when the watch itself was showing 4:20s. The track is infact shorter (around300m) so the difference comes from that presumably, but how it should detect that difference? Thanks for help.

  • Have you managed to get it to work properly?
