Forerunner 970 touch screen issues

My 970 seems to have touch screen input when nothing is touching it. It seems like it is overly sensitive. If I scroll up to view running details, and scroll thru the items there, it gets stuck constantly opening the selected item, and sometimes the screen is slightly scrolling back and forth on its own (screen is shaking).

I notice this when looking at the acute load and load focus screens. It is very repeatable. I'll hit the back button to get out, and it will jump right back into the screen, over and over again. My fingers are nowhere near the center of the screen to possibly touch the screen link. I have to hit the back button quickly, multiple times, to get to the watch face to get it to stop.

Is this a hardware bug? software bug? I didn't have this problem on the Fenix 7s.

  • Here’s your text with clearer grammar and flow while keeping it close to the original:

Finally, I went to the official Garmin shop where I bought the watch, and they gave me a new one, which works perfectly fine even on the version prior to 6.18. So, it could have been a hardware problem. I don’t know why this happens with only a few units, though.

  • I’ve had similar. I originally noticed it times out quickly so adjusted this to the max timeout in settings. However whilst kr now stays on for the 15 seconds, it then dims partially and if I’m still looking at the watch face, despite tapping it again, it stays dim. It’s as though it doesn’t wake up again as it thinks it just timed out. So frustrating.

I had also ordered a venu 3S and it DOESN’T have the same issue. The screen works perfectly. It’s more sensitive to gesture and I’ve never seen it too sensitive to touch. Whereas my 970 often ends up scrolling through menus randomly when I set it to ‘always on’. This isn’t during activity but just normal wear. Just annoying as you’d expect the premium watch to be work better.

  • You should return that 970 and ask for a new unit. Since I returned mine the new one works perfectly.

In my opiniom garmin has some units with hardware problems dont know why, and if you have bad luck you buy one.

Please garmin review the manufacturing process or test the devices before selling them.

750€ for a premium watch that doesnt work is not good. I was sad for weeks until I replaced it.

    thanks!!
