Battery life

Hi all,

I let AI create a comparission of battery life. Do you think the table below is correct? Especially looking for ALL SATELLITES + MULTIBAND + NAVIGATION ON MAP.

If it is correct, the 970 battery life is not much worse than Fenix 7 Pro during an activity.

Can It be truth?

  • hi Luca, your writing is perfect :)

it seems like (cost aside) that microLED is the next big thing that may help out on the battery and "always on" (and no burn in) but it doesn't seem that is happening in the near future across the board. I agree that if one is trying to mount their watch to their bike handlebars,  AMOLED and the dimmed AOD is a nonstarter.

I've posted elsewhere that I miss my MIPS 955, but also have benefited from AMOLED for my use case, especially with my aging eyes. but I see several instances where AMOLED is significantly inferior.

I do wonder if Garmin will the market as being big enough for a 47mm Enduro 3 or one version of a MIPS Forerunner. then again, Garmin already has so many SKUs/models, that it might just get lost in the shuffle of the so many options available to the average consumer. I know there are people out there who want MIPS; it's just unclear if there are enough for Garmin to see it as worthwhile audience, especially in the running/triathlon world.

  • Dear friend, if you were born in 1987, I am much older than you, 1969 and in the sun I already have difficulty with the phone without glasses, let alone with a small watch. Returning to our discussion, I also think of a not too distant future with microled, solid state battery and I hope return of solar charging for all top of the range dedicated to long distances, I think it is the right combination for captivating aesthetics and versatility for every use. I see amoled as a transition, a bait for customers launched by wild marketing, also I do not understand the addition of a hands-free without radio on board to compete with products with integrated radio, mystery, curved glass that would be the first contact to a shock even if sapphire, I am not an engineer but I am only reflecting on practical use.

  • hi Luca, I'm actually also 56. :)  the extra 0.1" of size coupled with the AMOLED resolution have helped enhance readability for me. if I still had my eyes for my 30s, I wouldn't have gone AMOLED. (also: the other issue was reading anecdotes about how badly the Fenix 8 Solar has performed relative to specs, even 8 months after release)

the curved glass on the 965/970 is a definitive negative to me and a puzzling design choice by Garmin. prior to my Fenix 8, I always slapped a glass protector on my Forerunners. I'm going without a glass protector with the Fenix 8, hoping that its slightly bezel and sapphire lens will do well in the long haul.
