Please stop fabricating heart rates

When the sensors cannot measure heart rate, the Forerunner 965 just invents numbers out of thin air.

This disturbs my attempts of precise training control. When heart rates are different than expected, I am wondering what's wrong during the analysis, until I figure that Garmin is just straight out lying to me and maybe the belt was not properly attached or it was not moist enough or whatever.

Is there a setting to stop the Garmin from fabricating numbers? Either record an accurate measurement or record "no data"? I cannot imagine that any serious athlete wants made up data in their training logs.

  • I'm not sure if that's easy. I don't think Garmin knows when this happens and decided to report some random value. I've seen both with the built in optical sensor, and to my surprise even with the Polar H10, that after laying them down on the desk they keep on displaying HR values (that are even changing)
