Forerunner 965 Swim Drill Log Error

I use the Drill Log on my Forerunner 965 to record time and distance for kick sets. I have done so successfully for years. Last week an error started occurring. It may have started after the latest update. When I press the "Back" button to end the drill my watch totally restarts and displays the watch face while losing track of the drill I am doing. This morning, I tried pressing the "Stop" button instead, and the same thing occurred. The drill lasts approximately 10 minutes. The "Back" button works properly for all of its other functions on the watch. If I start a drill and then immediately end it, the watch allows me to enter a distance and record a "drill". Anybody else experiencing an issue with the Drill Log?

Report it to Garmin customer support and hope that it'll be fixed next quarter

I have the exact same error occur a few times in the past week. It seems correlated to the update to 26.08 that auto updated just prior to the software bug. In some cases, it restarts the watch, in other cases it just exits the activity. Luckily, it retains the cancelled swim histories.

I did some experimenting with the drill mode. If you keep each drill short (less then 3 minutes) it works okay. If you go longer on the drills it crashes when you try to end it. I ended up stopping the drill every 100, and then restarting it for next 100. I am still trying to report it to support, but they are having me try things before they will take the issue.

Garmin even bricks watches that have been out for more than two and a half years with their updates.
Did all the experienced developers quit at once or something?

They are a hardware company. Software has never been their strong side.

Same for 26.08 on the 955, with others having the same issue there. I even tried reinstalling the software to no avail. Thx for the tip on shorter drill intervals. My crashes were after after 10 minutes. Given the number of complaints, Garmin should put out a fix now rather than quarterly.

I spent some time with support yesterday. Received this from garmin this morning.

According to the engineers, they have identified the issue and will have an upcoming fix, they currently have no estimated date for this yet.

Thanks. Garmin reached out to me to determine whether we have the same problem. Confirmed we do. At least they are on it. The time limit for me before crashing is 10 min.

Garmin's answer to me was to exchange my current watch for a reconditioned one. If I wanted to ship my watch to them and wait for the replacement it would cost $160. If I wanted them to send me the replacement and then ship my watch to them, I would pay $320 up front and get half refunded when they received my watch. Glad to hear that bob4321 and Andy275 received more helpful advice.
