Garmin forerunner 965 endurance score not updating

My endurance score use to update after every run and now it just won't update no matter what but when I run it'll say+3 or +4 gain after a little bit into the run but on my watch and app it just keeps saying trending down and my score is slowly dropping even though I'm running and working out more than ever

  • There are many things that can play into the Endurance Score. Please review this Running Science article about Endurance Score and other metrics.

  • I agree, I see similar on my 955.  I put in a lot of hours like you, running, walking, cycling and weightlifting.  My endurance level keeps dropping despite cycling ftp and vo2 max increasing along with 5K runtime improvements.  Also, the tabs contradict each other.  One metric says you are doing all the right things and your fitness is improving based on cycling power, ftp, vo2 max…etc and another says your endurance is trending down which contradicts cycling ftp improvements.

After a couple years wearing Garmin, I have learned to focus on resting and max HR, cycling Power, cycling ftp, vo2, run times and just take the rest as an fyi with not much weight.  Don’t get me wrong, I like this watch but some of these metrics do not match my performance results.

Some examples:  your fitness is moving in the right direction.  Your fitness keeps improving.

    training load : Optimal

    endurance:

  • Last night I cycled for over an hour at a low intensity and my endurance score increased for the first time in over a month. This matches what I thought, Garmin is not crediting endurance score for high intensity exercise 45 minutes or less.  Their endurance score appears to be based on length of exercise.  This goes against studies showing HIIT exercise as a top option for increasing endurance quickly.  I would expect my 45 minute rides at high intensity to impact endurance and fitness more than my zone 1-2 ride last night. I know zone 2 is important as well but decreasing the endurance score after a 45 minute all out running or cycling effort, that leaves me confused.

  • It's just frustrating now that I'm working out harder than ever more often than ever my score just keeps dropping but before when I use to do almost nothing my score was a 100 points higher .I just want for a run and a little into the run my watch said+4 yet my endurance score dropped and I continue to tread down if I would've known a $600 watch was only going to be good for a step counter I would have just gotten a fitbit

  • It is disappointing, their own app conflicts with different modules within the app. Some features are not measuring true fitness at all in my opinion.

51 minute High intensity ride last night.   Endurance dropped.  How does endurance drop for a Vo2 workout Garmin Connect says improved my aerobic capacity.  How is it even possible for Vo2 to increase over the year yet endurance gets worse.

I am pretty confident if I had rode for 9 more minutes to hit Garmins programming of 1 hr my endurance would have gone up.
