Optical HR On For Activity Only

Hello!

As many others have asked, I would very much like to have an option to disable the optical HR by default and have it activated automatically when any activity is started on the watch.

I too could not care any less about recovery time or sleep quality or anything else really. Having my FR 965 last some 30+ days between charges is really nice!  I don't run as much as I used to since my 2020 Achilles tendon injury... and so battery life span with smartphone connectivity is really what I am looking for with Optical HR when I go out for my run or whatever other activity I start on the watch.

Please add the option to disable optical HR by default and have it automatically activated when an activity is started.

Cheers from Montreal

Luc

  • What if you use the battery saver feature?

Seems like it can do exactly what you want.

I tried this on my FR955:

    - Opened Settings > Power Manager > Battery Saver

    In the Battery Saver menu:

    - I selected Edit and turned off Wrist Heart Rate

    - I selected Status to turn on the battery saver feature

    After doing this:

    - The optical HR was off outside of activities

    - If I opened an activity, the optical HR would turn on

I assume this should also work for FR965. (If I'm wrong about that, sorry for wasting your time.)

  • Superb solution!

This setting is actually automated to activate in the sleep setting.  I programmed it to activate at 10pm and is automatically disabled at 6am.  That way, Bluetooth,  Optical HR (OHR) and probably more functions are disabled when I sleep.  It's during the day when not in an activity I wish the watch to disable OHR...

  • Unfortunately, as you probably surmised, since FR955/FR965 only have one power saving profile, you will not be able to use this solution unless you are willing to have the same battery saving config 24 hours a day (outside of activities).

Sorry, I don't have a better solution for you.

Either you will have to change a setting on your watch before and after activities, or you will have to live with your battery life being 20 days instead of 30 days or whatever.

  • Hello if you go to Health & wellbeing and you disable the HR sensor, it will not read your HR all day, but will work in sports, i guess, did you tried?
