I've been having serious issues with music on my Forerunner 965 (running firmware 23.20). I’ve had the watch for about 4–5 months, but only recently started setting up music. Here’s what I’ve run into:
1. Spotify playback loops the same few songs:
I downloaded a playlist with ~450 songs. Whether shuffle is on or off, the watch keeps looping the same 2–4 songs. Toggling shuffle just changes which 2–4 songs it loops, but it never plays beyond that small group.
2. MP3 playlists cause instability:
One of the main reasons I got the 965 was the 32GB storage for loading my own music. I tried adding a 700-song MP3 playlist, and it nearly bricked the device — I had to reboot it about a dozen times just to delete the playlist.
Even smaller playlists (~100 songs) don’t work properly — playback constantly cuts out every 2 seconds, and if I pause the music for a few minutes and press play again, there's no audio at all (even though the progress bar keeps moving).
It only seems stable with playlists of 50 songs or fewer — which is less than 2 hours of music and takes up under 100MB. That’s incredibly limiting for a watch with 32GB of storage.
