Consistently low HRV Status

I'm sure I'm not the only one to post about this, but it's really winding me up now. I'm 26 years old, I run 3 times a week and cycle a lot too. I eat healthy, have a physical job that requires me to always be on my feet all day, I very rarely drink alcohol, I sleep relatively well and am content with my life, so am not stressed or anxious about anything.

However since having the Forerunner 965 (November last year), my HRV has been ridiculously low, (19ms awake average and 20ms asleep average) to the extent that I don't know whether I should go and see a doctor. Should I be worried? Or is my Garmin faulty?

My training status has been on "Strained" for the last few months because of the HRV status so I don't feel as if my watch knows that I'm not tired and am healthy purely because of that.

I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to stats etc so this is quite infuriating, or maybe it's trying to tell me something?

Any help would be great. Does anyone else have this experience? And how did you go about fixing it?

Cheers

  • Ever since I did 1 bootcamp session over a week ago now, my garmin has been telling me my HRV is 'unbalanced' and too low with a 59ms overnight avg last night. So also looking at this thread for advice/info. My training readiness has been 'Maintaining' ever since. I give myself rest days, recovery runs and same as you, I eat healthily, get enough sleep, no drink or drugs, and not stressed or have a stressful job!

  • Have you done a hard reset of watch ?  30+ seconds of pressing the light button, gives watch a good full restart.  In the past it was recommended between firmware updates.

PResume you are using updated firmware?

I would bounce this off garmin support, HRV ranges is very dependant on person to person... would think that it would have 'learned' your range in this time.  Although, if its always the same maybe it isn't reading right?  Have you had an off/recovery week recently,  Do you see a change after a super easy week?
