Supplemental Strength Training for Run Coach

I just got my Garmin Forerunner 965 and started a 9-week Garmin Run Coach plan. I was excited to include the supplemental strength workouts, especially since I’ve had shin splints before and want to prevent them this time.

I found a support article explaining how to add the strength training, but I can’t seem to access it. I already did my first base run, but don’t see the option to add strength. I’ve restarted my plan as well to no avail. 

Has anyone been able to get this working? I thought the 965 supported it. Thanks!

  • Yes, for me those strength workout suggestions are visible in the Garmin Coach widget.

  • Being specific on this is tough as the names overlap.  Here I go:

    I set up a "Plan" ...Not a Garmin Coach Plan.  with Jeff, Amy, or the other guy.

    I have a Garmin Run Plan.

    I set it for 13 weeks.  

    I had the choice of targeting it to "a race date & distance or to "Fitness" I chose "Fitness"

    I had the choice to add in additional "strength" workouts.   I did select this option of addition strength.

    I had the choice in strength of either "Body Weight Only" or "Body Weight and Full Gym" ...I chose "Body Weight and Full Gym"

    There you go...I have a Garmin Plan...but you have to dig deep into all the variables to figure out if we are on the same page.

    On the first two weeks the whole plan really seemed out of control strength workouts did appear on my Webpage Calendar, App, and Watch. But they were only Bodyweight. I did two of them.   The first two week the "Plan" for the week changed radically every day.  "Strength" workouts on the watch would not show any details....it just showed "strength" without any specifics of what the workout was.

    Now in week three there are no more strength workouts showing up on the webpage calendar or the app.  On my  watch, under glances, in Garmin Coach, it shows tomorrow with a weightlifter icon, but clicking it shows no details and the App and Webpage show nothing.

    All in all the Strength workout suggestions have been a huge bust so far, but there are several other things with how this plan is operating that are confounding and perhaps broken, So far, it's kind of a mess.
