Music stuttering after 10-20 minutes

Hi,

I have my music/mp3s uploaded to my 965, and have tried 2 different earbuds so far (BX17/Cascho and a JLAB Go Sport+)

During a run, anywhere from 10-25 minutes in, the music will start to stutter every 1-2 seconds and won't quit until I reconnect the earbuds. It will then happen an even shorter time later after that. On tonight's 1 hour run, the stuttering happened at 26, 44, 50, 53, 56 minute marks, each time I had to disconnect and reconnect

I've tried with different satellite systems to see if it made any difference, also with no external HRM attached, neither made any difference. I noticed this issue has come up in the past, does anyone have a solution?

Thanks

  • Hi, got the same problem with AirPods. For me I also get stuttering effects after I skip a track.

  • Looks like a fix may be coming for the airpods bug in the next patches, according to the beta patch notes

  • I'm at a loss, $800 watch that can't play Bluetooth music reliably

  • hi
i also have, on my new garmin 965, the same problem with various bluetooth headphones. after about a quarter of an hour the music starts to cut out. i tried with a pair of old and low quality headphones and i didn't encounter the problem. could it depend on the bluetooth protocol used?
it's really scandalous that such an expensive watch has problems of this type. with my old Vivoactive 4 i didn't have any problems.

  • Same issue, different model:

    Forerunner 265 with a JLab Go Sport+

After 7 minutes the spotify audio starts stuttering - slowly at first then unbearably every 1 second till there's more stutter than playback.

Not related to distance between watch and headset, nor charging (watch nor headset), or activity/GPS on/off.

Not fixable with pause/unpause - you must go to the device settings (mid-run!) a few menus deep, disconnect the headphone, re-connect/pair it, then you get 7 more minutes of audio before it starts again.

To say that it's frustrating is an understatement.

  • So frustrating, I'm starting to think it may be some sort of buffering problem, but who knows. It doesn't happen with only 1 earbud on, has to be both connected. Sometimes stopping playback for 10 sec and restarting with give me 5-10 min normal play, sometimes not. I'm going to keep posting until Garmin acknowledges the problem, it seems pretty widespread over the past year of posts on Reddit and the Garmin forums.

I shouldn't be forced to buy an expensive set like Shokz or Jabra Elite 4s which seem to work well from what I've read

  • I have the JLab Go Air Sport and exactly the same issues. Only earbuds that work well for me with this watch are Jaybird X3 and X4. Sadly, the X3 battery already gave up and the X4's are also going the way of the Dodo. And it's not only related to Spotify as I upload my own mp3s into the watch. Maybe it is a bug in BT5 vs BT4?
