Can't upload workout

Hi.

I've been using the Garmin FR 965 watch for over six months, and now I've encountered a problem for the first time. The watch doesn't upload my cycling workout to Garmin Connect. I've tried all the basic recommendations: turning the phone or watch on/off, deleting and re-adding the watch in the Garmin Connect app - nothing helped.

As an experiment, I tried to start and save a strength workout. As soon as I saved it, it was immediately uploaded to Garmin Connect.

Then I started a specific cycling workout (MTB workout - I did a workout in this mode a couple of hours ago). Then, by analogy, I saved it, and the watch immediately uploaded it to the Garmin Connect app - everything is great. But the previous real cycling workout still did not appear in the Garmin Connect account.

The watch is 100% connected to wifi. I manually deleted the connection and reconnected again. The watch says that the test wifi connection works correctly.

What is wrong and why can't my workout be uploaded to the Garmin Connect app?
I've seen recommendations that suggest manually uploading the activity as a .FIT file, but my charging cable only has a TYPE-C interface instead of USB and I can't connect my watch to the computer to do this. (I don't have a TYPE-C -> USB adapter either)

Firmware version 22.24.

  • For me restarting the watch fixed it multiple times.

  • Done, thanks for the answer.

The main irony is that I just found out that my laptop has a type-C interface. Your answer was also based on the fact that I need to connect my watch to my computer before I can download something from there, and then upload it to Garmin Connect.

If my laptop didn't have a Type-C interface and a Type-C -> USB adapter, then there's no other way to download FIT file by connecting to the watch remotely (as far as I understand, most likely not)? That was the stumbling block for me.

    Thanks again for your reply.

No, if your activity file isn't syncing normally, then there's no way to manually get it without connecting your watch to your PC with a USB cable

    If my laptop didn't have a Type-C interface and a Type-C -> USB adapter,

To be clear, if your laptop has a USB type-C port and your FR965 charging cable is also type-C (as you said), then you don't need an adapter, since both the laptop and cable already use type-C.

But supposing that you wanted to connect your FR965 to a computer that only has USB-A ports, there would be a couple of options:

    1) get a USB-A charging/data cable directly from Garmin: www.garmin.com/.../696132

    2) get a Garmin-compatible USB-A charging/data cable elsewhere: https://www.amazon.ca/MoKo-Compatible-Vivoactive-Forerunner-Replacement/dp/B07NXY7C7M/ (ppl really like these "puck-style" cables because you can lay your watch flat on a table, but I find that they wear out really quickly)

    3) use your existing cable with a USB-C (female) to USB-A (male) adapter. e.g. https://www.amazon.ca/Crucial-USB-C-USB-Adapter-CTUSBCFUSBAMAD/dp/B08FSDMVNP/  This kind of adapter is fine for something small like your Garmin watch, but it can be dangerous in other contexts. (Like you definitely don't want to try to use it to charge a laptop or tablet using a computer, and you don't want to connect something like a USB-A to USB-C cable to it)

Best solution would be to just buy the cable from Garmin, if you do need it. (Or if you think you'll need it in the future, like if you're on the road or something. It would also give you more options for charging your watch on the road, not just the rare case when you want to connect it to a computer to manually copy stuff off of it.)
