Use navigation during running activity.

I have been trying to use navigation for my runs for quite a while, but I can't seem to figure out how to start it properly, so I would appreciate if anyone could help.

This is my problem: I preload on the watch a course I created on Garmin Connect. No issues.

I go out, press run, long press "up button", navigation (my watch is in Italian, so my words in English might not be exact), course, I select the course I want, follow course.

The course loads, I wait for satellite lock, then start my running activity, and the watch takes minutes to calculate the route. This wouldn't be too much annoying if I was able to stop / pause my run and wait for the watch to make these evidently extremely complicated calculations. Stuck out tongue winking eye. But no, the dumb very expensive piece of plastic stops calculating the course if I pause my run!

Is there a proper way to do it, or the only way is to run in circles until the stupid thing takes its time to figure out where I need to go?

Thanks for the much appreciated help!

  • the watch takes minutes to calculate the route.

It looks as if your watch is set to “use map”. Use map does not use your course, but calculates a course itself based on the map data.

If you want to follow this course, you must use the “follow course” option in the settings.

  • Yes you are right, thanks. However, if I "use map" and, for any reason, go off the predetermined course, it won't change the route to bring me back to the course, based on my experience.
