DSW not advancing my fitness

I've had my FR965 for a couple of months now. I'm enjoying the DSW and have been using them for a mixture of running and cycling. The issue I have is that roughly the workouts are being suggested every week, with no increase in duration or intensity. My training load pretty much bobs around at the bottom of the green Optimal range for both Acute and Chronic, but I'm not being suggested any workouts to push things upwards. My training readiness scores suggest that I could be doing workouts that take me further or longer or faster.

I could set a milestone target, but that results in a plan for either running OR cycling, whereas I want to gradually improve in both disciplines.

Any suggestions on how I can get the suggestions to stretch me a bit more, so as to actually see some fitness gains?

  • For me, putting in a target race (HM) lead to some increase in training load although not to the extent I had when laying out my own training programs.

Maybe DWS is too influenced by your daily form and backing off training due to sleep, HRV or stress. Do you have any such indication?

My personal experience is that with the last two release cycles (6 months) the acute training load is wrong. For me it is either close to zero or way to high if I compare to what I get from Training Peaks or Stryd.

  • DSW isn't a training plan, its a way to keep your training varied and fit.  Not push you hard with an ever increasing fitness.  At least in my experience.  Puts a lot of emphasis on variety , as well as your HRV status and Recovery Status.

If you like to use it, but want to really ramp up load and fitness.... Really just going to probably override it a bit, so when it says long run of 1:20.... just run a bit further.  If it says 3x8' threshold... add a 4th or part of a 4th... etc.  Add 10minutes to the end of a run.

It is probably being conservative to prevent excess fatigue, overthinking recovery time and HRV data, and using minimal dose training (what many people want...just want to jog around every run medium effort).
