Stryd running power data is sometimes not displayed in the 80/20 data field and is not transferred to Training Peaks and Strava

By this, I understand you to mean that the Stryd is connected via the built-in Sensors & Accessories menu as a foot pod and a power meter (both using ANT)

The solution is to disconnect the Stryd as a power meter (in the Sensors & Accessories menu).

You have to enter the Stryd's ANT+ ID in the 80/20 data field's settings because 80/20 needs to make a direct connection to Stryd as a power meter, and it can't do that if you've already connected Stryd as a power meter via Sensors & Accessories.

In the past, it was possible for 3rd party Connect IQ data field - such as 80/20 -  to read power from Stryd in a running activity, if you had connected it as a power meter via Sensors & Accessories, due to a quirk of the Connect IQ API. But this quirk was removed from all current devices (including FR965) a few months ago. Now the only way for a CIQ data field to read power from Stryd in a running activity is to make a direct connection.

That may be why you seem to be only experiencing this problem now (and perhaps not in the past).

Sorry if I am misunderstanding. But I am getting Stryd Power into Training Peaks via FR965.

I use only the Stryd data field and then have power both in that and in one other Garmin data page. Things are set up according to Stryd instructions for Garmin.

Things are coming over OK to TP.

Why do you need to use the 80/20 data field? I was honestly not aware of it.

thanks i will try recently I saw the Stryd ID appear in the 80/20 data field settings, it automatically listed my sensor ID.

it's more that the times I didn't see running power data in Strava and Training peaks were when the 80/20 data field didn't show running power data. the main Stryd data field was working normally

Just one thing to be aware of.

Power can only be used in two separate data fields. One being the Stryd Data field. So it can only be used in one more place. If you try to add it in two more places, one of them will not work. Have you added power in more places than the 8020 field.

This surprised me, it seems to be a limit in the FR SW design.

I have capacity used in only two data fields. it always worked before. cases have recently been described in the topic

Yeah, many CIQ data fields, including Stryd Zones, will automatically detect a nearby Stryd and directly connect to it. Sorry, I shouldn't have mentioned entering the Stryd ANT+ ID in settings as if that part was crucial.

But my main points were:

- this direct connection is not possible if you are already connecting to the Stryd as a power meter in the Sensors & Accessories menu

- in the past, 3rd party data fields (other than Stryd Zones) did not necessarily need a direct connection to the Stryd, because they could get Stryd power from the Connect IQ API. Due to a recent firmware change, 3rd party data fields cannot get Stryd power from the CIQ API, and a direct connection is now required

Some people like to use 3rd-party data fields that work with Stryd power to display additional stats that may not be available with the Stryd Zones data field, like normalized power.

I'd like to clarify what's actually happening here. For context, I'm a Connect IQ dev who made the Run Power data field which supports directly communicating with Stryd, and I've talked to people on Stryd team. Although this was years ago, I have kept up with the latest developments with Stryd, Garmin devices, and Garmin native running power.

Stryd, unlike most sensors, allows three separate simultaneous ANT+ connections:

1) Using the proprietary Stryd ANT+ profile. Only Stryd Zones can connect this way. This profile provides running power, cadence, and several related running power-related metrics (e.g. leg spring stiffness)

2) As a standard foot pod. This profile provides cadence, and optionally, speed and distance.

3) As a standard (cycling) power meter. This profile provides only power. Obviously Stryd doesn't really support cycling power, but there is no such thing as a standard running power profile, so Stryd pretends to be a cycling power meter for the convenience of users who want to obtain a power value this way

Each of the standard foot pod and power meter connections can be made either natively (via the watch's Sensors & Accessories menu) or via a "direct connection" from 3rd party CIQ app (such as 80/20), but not both at the same time.

In other words, if I want to connect to Stryd as a power meter, I can make the connection either from the watch's built-in Sensors & Accessories menu, or from a third party CIQ app, like the 80/20 data field, not both at the same time.

When you say that power can only be used in two separate (CIQ) data fields, this is what's actually happening:

- One of those CIQ data fields has to be Stryd Zones

- Stryd Zones makes a direct connection to the Stryd using the proprietary ANT+ profile

- The other CIQ data field makes a direct connection to the Stryd using the cycling power meter profile. [*]

[*] In the past, this direct connection wasn't necessary, as a 3rd party data field could retrieve stryd power data from the Connect IQ API, provided that the stryd was connected as a cycling power meter in the Sensors & Accessories menu. But this loophole has been closed - when you ask the CIQ API for power in running mode, it no longer returns cycling power, but only Garmin native running power (which never includes Stryd power)..

So it's not really a limit in the Forerunner software design in the way that you think. The real issue is that there's no running power standard, so 3rd party apps have to talk to the Stryd directly. And the fact that 2 apps can do so at the same time (one using the proprietary Stryd profile, and one using the standard cycling power meter profile) is actually more of a feature of Stryd, than a limitation of Garmin.

For additional context, since this sort of thing always comes up in the forums:

- The Garmin native running power feature will never use power from Stryd, no matter what you do. It doesn't matter if you select Accessory Only as the source, because Garmin will only use power from a Garmin accessory (supported chest strap or RD-POD)

- Enabling or disabling Garmin running power will have no effect on Stryd power per se (except of course that enabling it will cause Garmin running power to be recorded, which can affect 3rd party sites/apps other than Stryd or Garmin which consume power data, as they will usually prefer Garmin power to Stryd power) It is recommended to turn off Garmin running power so that 3rd party sites and apps will use Stryd power (and not Garmin power).
