IQ! error on preloaded clock face

I have a brand new Forerunner 965.  I have synced it with my android phone & let it use my home wifi.  I did a long press on the middle left button & chose "watch face".  One of the watch faces show the IQ! error.  I have not loaded any apps.  How do I get rid of the error?  Thanks.

  • An IQ! error only occurs when watchfaces/apps are subsequently installed.
    If you have this error, your watch will not be brand new.

  • It was advertised as brand new on ebay. It sure looks brand new. In any case, how do I get rid of the error?

  • This is easy...

    First go to settings/sistem/about to see on wich version of software your watch is... the last SW version is 22.22... if you are not on 22.22 then update it

    After update to last version go to settings/sistem/ delete all data and factory reset... this will delete all instaled apps and watchfaces and everithing set to default setting.

    Then I would also do a "REINSTALL SOFTWARE"... go to settings/sistem/about  and pres Light button 8 times, select REINSTALL SOFTWARE......

    that would be complete fresh start with the latest SW version of the watch with default settings and default watchfaces...

  • Easy?!?!?  I don't think so.  Took me an hour to do this.  SW was at 22.22 .  I did Reset; Delete Data and Reset Settings.  The reinstall feature was not in the manual so didn't do that (I like to read about things before I do them). 

    Tried to set the watch face but it was in Sleep Mode & wouldn't let me change it.  FINALLY figured out how to stop sleep mode from changing the face.  Tried to change watch face.  Went to the one that was causing problems (3rd one from the bottom, it's a very complicated face).  That showed for about 5 seconds, then it switched to a very simple face (battery & time only), then after some time, switched to the IQ! message.  So all the resetting didn't seem to help.

    Then I again tried to set the watch face & this time after choosing the complicated face, I didn't get the IQ! message.  So maybe it worked after all.  But since the complicated face switches to a simple face after 5 seconds, it's not too helpful so decided not to use that one anyway.

    After update to 22.22 I have the same iQ error for 3rd party watchfaces I instaled over Connect iQ before update to 22.22, stres level was way off and constanly zerro, Altitude was very off, nap detection didnt work, HR during interval training was not on time and it has delay... etc.

    I did " delete all data and factory reset" and for the most cases didnt helped like it is on most previous updates.

    Then someone recomended me to Reinstall Software and I did it.

    It takes longer than OTA update and when finished the watch behave like the first time I turned ON the new watch... region settings, language settings, etc... and then there were notification of succed reinstall and also there were 4 notifications:

    GPS modul was updated to version 13.00

    WiFi modul was updated to version 28.27

    WHR modul was updated to version 19.01.02

    Sensor Hub was updated to version 33.13

    After 2-3 days stress level detection is back normal, WHR detection is superb (tested 2 times with HIIT high interval training), nap detection is working again, no iQ error, Altitude is almost perfect, Battery consumption is superb (in 3 days with 3 HIIT training, each duration 45min, no GPS sport/hiking) I am still at 89% of battery and the watch overal is very responsive and no lag throu menues... and synchronizing with my phone is now without delay and instant... all positive after Software Reinstal..

  • That sounds like it really helped you.  I'd like to read about "reinstall software" from Garmin.  Where is it described on their website or manual?  Thanks.

  • It is not AFAIK  . Its a thing they put in there recently and probably is a support function that we all worked out. All it does is rerun the last install of the software . I have done it myriad times when had issues with no ill effects.

  • I think Garmin add this function "Reinstall Software" in December 2024 in on of OTA update. I cant find some user manuall or anything from Garmin regard this feature. All I can find about this feature is on Garmin forums discusion.

  • So it's the same as a software update?  But forces it if you are already up to date?
