It is very important to focus on the turns and pushes. It relies on the movement only not any GPS.
I assume the length is set correctly in your Swimming app at 50m?
Have you compared the number of laps…
Explain what you mean please so we can try to help. This is to general a comment.
You get no track in a pool , no GPS is on for Pool Swim

If you "fiddle" during a lap (or hit soemthing like the lane divider) or move your arm whilst in rest , it can think its a new lap.
Mine is accurate if my laps are correct and I push and rest with no messing.
This is also a good site to look at and edit if necessary, for instance when strokes get messed up.

I had to focus on my backstroke method , now it picks it up better.
Look at the Garmin support page on Swimming not recording accurately for further tips.

Yeah- I cannot get through a single workout without my 965 dropping a few laps. whereas, my FormSwim goggles nail it every time. I have good flipturns and good pushoffs- however, I'm a lousy glider, and don't wait much time before I start taking a stroke again. I've thought that is the reason, but even when i work really hard at that part... it still misses laps. oh well.
