WhatsApp call notifications

Is there anyone who managed to get notifications of a WhatsApp call on a Garmin watch? I've got the Forerunner 965 and I've tried everything I feel like, it will never notify me on the watch. It's driving me insane, I have tens of missed calls via WhatsApp daily, since my phone is always on silent.

It worked perfectly fine on my Samsung S24, whatsapp notifications were disabled in Garmin Connect but somehow the watch still knew that a whatsapp call is a call and that it should notify me by vibrating.

  • I receive WA Calls , I'm on iOS however.

Under notifications and alerts , smart notifications you have a choice of what type notifications you want so make sure the call ones are active , you can disable the text and apps ones. Make sure for General and Activities are set as they are seperate,

TBH I am not sure if calls on but apps off would work for a WA call as I have mine all active

When you say it worked on you S24 , do you mean you have changed to a new device then it acted differently since then?

  • Thank you for your reply. I have calls enabled for both during activity and general. I also enabled notifications for all apps just to be sure that's not the culprit. Funnily enough, Garmin notifies me of the missed call immediately, but it won't notify me of the call itself.

Yes, I was on Samsung S24 and everything worked fine for the past year, regardless of whether I had whatsapp notifications enabled or disabled in Garmin Connect, it would always vibrate on an incoming WhatsApp call.

I am at a point of returning this phone and going back to Samsung as I can't for the love of God figure out how to get those call notifications to work.

  • 'I have tens of missed calls via WhatsApp daily, since my phone is always on silent.'

Garmin notifications simply mirror/relay that of your phone. Doesn't this imply it may be muted? Which phone do you have?

  • The incoming call pops up on the phone's screen as it should, with the banner on top and in the status bar too. Just the watch does nothing. Then when the caller hangs up, the phone shows a missed call notification and the watch vibrates to tell me that I had missed a call.

    It's a OnePlus 13 on Android 15.

  • I do wonder if someone Samsung or Apple handle a whatsapp call like a real call in some weird sense which allows Garmin to recognize it but for whatever reason OnePlus handles it in a different way where Garmin doesn't view it as a call but rather just a notification of an app. But even then, one would think with whatsapp notifications enabled, the call should go through? But it doesn't.

  • I've always had trouble with WhatsApp respecting my phone's silent/vibrate/ring setting, in that if I select vibrate on my phone and in WhatsApp to 'default' I get no vibration, I have to change it in WhatsApp. It could be a OnePlus issue, categorising the call as something other than the notification type Garmin alerts you to. Knowing Garmin's support I imagine you'd have more luck with OnePlus than here.

I've just tried mine, I get a WhatsApp alert on my 965 when I call my phone via WhatsApp from another phone, and can press the top right menu thing on my watch and accept the call on my phone. I'm using a Pixel 9 Pro with phone on silent.

  • Thank you for trying that for me. It would appear that it is a OnePlus issue since it works on your Pixel. I had tried everything, re-pairing, resetting to factory settings, checking battery optimisation and ensuring the apps (both whatsapp and Gamin Connect) can run in the background, enabling all notifications in whatsapp, in phone settings and in Garmin Connect and checking that it's enabled on my watch. Everything is enabled, yet the call notifications won't go through. I'll give it another week and if I don't find a solution, I will return the OnePlus and go back to Samsung which has worked for me for years.

Was keen to try something new given that Samsung didn't particularly impress me with the S25 lineup but hey perhaps I shouldn't have been trying to fix what's not broken!
