incline skating

I set and Inline Skating indoor activity today. This is my very first time using the Inline Skating activity, I have not had my watch very lone. I do inline skating, 5, 6 times a month and want to be sure to understand how it works.

1. - It did not calculate my distance?

2 - It did not calculate my speed?

I had set my timer on my iPhone at the same time I hit Go on my watch for the inline skating. My iPhone showed I skated for 1:38 minutes but yet my watch captured only 54:40 minutes.

I set another inline skating activity for outdoor and it did the exact same thing, did not capture the distance and di not capture my speed?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you

Michael

  • Indoors there's no gps reception, so this is expected. Especially if you haven't used it outdoors previously. Though I'm not sure how much that would help in this case. In case of running, walking if you do an outdoors activity OR you manually set your average stride length in Garmin Connect > Settings > User settings > Custom stride length, then next time it'll calculate pace, speed, distance based on that multiplied by steps.

    But I'm not sure if that is taken into account in case of inline skating or if it is then if the value is relevant to skating. Worth to give it a try:

    1. Record a 1km or 1mi inline skating outdoors

    2. Record some with the indoors setting (doesn't need to be physically indoors) and see if it has distance

    3. If not then set custom stride length and test #2 again

    Update;

    I checked it on my indoors ice skating from August and it has no distance (as expected), so for sure custom stride length is not used. I've never been to outdoors ice skating (though I've done outdoors inline skating) but my guess is that it won't work either, as the stride length is probably only used for walk and treadmill runs.

  • thank you, I appreciated it. I figured for inside it might be no GPS. I will give your suggestions a try.
