Activity not included in Training Load under specific circumstances

I’ve seen this bug happen a couple of times, on different firmwares, but only under the following conditions:

1) An activity (ie a run) initiated with a Garmin Chest HRM connected, concluded and saved.

2) A second activity (ie a cooldown/Other activity) initiated a couple of minutes later but BEFORE the notification that HRM is connected.

3) Second activity concluded and watch prompts to download HR data from HRM.

4) Data downloaded and activity saved.

The bug: both activities are saved but only on the second activity is accounted for in Training Load. I can see both activities under Exercise Load but only the second activity’s Training Load appears in the total score. Is there a way to force the watch/app to recalculate or recount the training load? I’ve tried deleting the second activity, thinking it might be some sort of conflict between the two activities but it doesn’t change anything.

  • Similar issue for me.

Yesterday I used my Edge 540 to do my recon ride before the race and then paused this activity. Stepped on the trainer for a short warm up session which I then recorded with my Forerunner 965. Afterwards I proceeded with the race using my Edge 540.

This event had an exercise load of 512 which was not added to my training load. Only the short warm up session on the trainer is reflected and now I'm missing a huge effort which will bias my ATL & CTL for weeks to come. Strange thing is that my recovery did reflect a very big effort but somehow this was not update for my Acute Load.

I tried deleting the activities and re-uploading through Garmin Connect and even manually placing the fit file back on both the Edge 540 & the Forerunner 965 using my Mac with no luck. I get the file to reappear on both devices after deleting it but it does not change anything for my Acute Load despite having the exercise load reflected correctly.

Cannot seem to find any fix online and it seems Garmin is ignoring this issue.
