Forerunner 965 - Lactate Threshold not Updating - 21.19

I have a Forerunner 965 running Software Update 21.19. The last time I received a Lactate Threshold update was the 4th November despite having completed 14 runs since this date of various types / intensities (Threshold, Sprint, Easy). Prior to the 4th November my Lactate Threshold was updating regularly. I always run with a Heartrate Monitor (HRM Run). I have Auto Detection switched on for Max HR, Threshold and FTP.

Is there another setting that I am missing?

  • Regarding LTHR pace, that's also problematic for me.

Yes, the fact that we cannot overide the lactate pace value might be an issue.

There is the possibility that it doesn’t matter though. If you overide the LTHR estimate it is possible that the watch looks up dynamically the corresponding pace when it needs the pace @ LTHR value, for example when it evaluates the rules that determine le overall workout benefit label.

    Lactate Threshold!!!

After almost two months and about 300 km of run sessions, today, at the end of a base 11 km workout run (with a fast last km), a new LT showed up on my FR955... I tried again (I think for at least the fifth time) the auto detection on/off trick (no factory reset at all) and this time it worked, though I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence. I'm beginning to think that it's pretty a random thing.

For complete information about my today experience: the real new thing I tried today was bringing with me my Garmin running dynamics pod. I realized by chance that last time I had used it was on november 29th, which was actually the last day with a detected LT before today, so I decided to use it as a good luck charm/talisman... And it worked...GrinJoy

I'm currently feeling in a pretty good shape and today's  improved/better LT value may be realistic. The funny thing is that at the exact same time my VO2MAX estimate was lowered by one point!

Anyway, we'll see if from now on a new LT will show up at the end of each run, as I read it should since the release of bloody 21.19 update.

Finally, I'm still convinced that Garmin should have not anyway got rid of the LT guided test and of the possibility of accept/refuse new LT values. I hope we'll have these options back sooner or later.

  • Another run today and another update to LT. Maybe flipping the switches on/off did the trick in my case.

  • Didn't work again for me at the end of today's run as It did yesterday.

    It's pretty random I guess...

  • Experiencing the exact same thing. Max hearth rate does update every once and a while but lactate threshold hasn't been updated since May. Does anybody have some updates on how to fix this? Else, Garmin are you aware and looking into this? Kind regards L

  • I'm having the same problem, no update since April 26th, and that update came from a long  base run. I've done a variety of intensity runs since, including a half-marathon race, three weeks ago, and no updates.

  • Have you checked also Garmin Connect? I've noticed that if the watch detects the exact same LTHR and pace, it just records a data point on Garmin Connect, but (understandably) doesn't notify on watch.

And LTHR and pace don't change quickly, so not getting changed values often is not surprising.

  • Yes i checked this. But there ist no data point. My last LTHR was at Dezember 2024! And this was before they changed Algorithmus (you always needed a extern HR strab).

  • No update for me since April.  Flipping the auto-detect on/off doesn't do the trick either.  I always use a HR strap and have plenty of spicy runs within that time too.

  • What do you mean by an external hearthrate strap? It should detect LT from the wrist.
