[21.19] Strength coach not available

I updated my FR965 to 21.19 software today, then restarted the watch and then restarted my Android phone. Strength coach is not available for me in Garmin Connect Android app. Garmin Connect is in latest available version and I have no other Garmin Coach (running or cycling) plan in progress. What's going on here? Should it be available (as release notes state) or not? Or is this another Garmin bug?

  • Hello! Can you please double check that 21.19 is installed on the watch? Long hold the middle left button and scroll to System > About. If it is on 21.19, please open the Connect app, sync, and go to More > Training and Planning > Garmin Coach Plans > Find a Plan. Please take a screenshot of this page and upload/submit it here: Secure File Upload Tool. Thank you!

  • I double checked everything before posting this issue, but I just checked it all again as you requested. I also just uploaded requested screenshot and additionally screenshot showing software version on the watch.

  • Thank you for the screenshots! It's possible the update was received by your watch, but was not actually downloaded. Can you please go to System > Software Update on the watch itself and see if it is available for download? You can double check the sw version as well by going to "About" on the watch, instead of the app.

  • I did check software version on the watch, I just uploaded screenshot from the app additionally. To be honest it amazes my that you suggest that Garmin Connect app can show different details about the watch than the watch itself. Anyway I just checked SW version again on the watch and it's 21.19. I also have new features this version brings:  moon phase glance and meditation activity. Is this enough to confirm I'm on 21.19?

  • Internally, it did not appear that the watch was fully updated to 21.19 based off of your email address. I also double checked the possibility of that with another higher support agent to be sure, so that's why I wanted to verify it with you. Please make sure your Connect app is up to date, and then perform one more sync and double check your Garmin Coach options. If the Strength option is still not there, please follow the steps from Remove and Add a Device From the Garmin Connect App to establish a fresh connection with the watch. If the Strength Coach is still not available, may I have permission to reach you via email so we can further investigate? Thank you!

  • I had an identical problem. In my case, deleting the Connect app cache helped, then I did a sync and checked to see if the strength training plan showed up.

  • I restarted my phone and everything turned up, for me!

  • I tried it all again: I checked version on the watch and phone and it was 21.19, I also had all the features this version brings except strength coach. I then checked (just in case) if it's possible to do SW upgrade again and to my surprise watch started downloading update again. This time update process was much quicker (when I first updated to 21.19 watch showed that it will take about 8 minutes, this second update was to take 2 minutes). After second update strength coach is available now.

This is very strange to me. @Garmin-Sierra Could you please explain or at least give some hints what happened here? How is this possible that SW was partially updated? Were there two SW versions or was it somehow split into two bundles?

  • Same thing here - watch at 21.19, as per Connect App on phone, no Strength Coach, now the phone is uploading another update to the watch...!?
