Navigation by "Use Map" keeps shortcutting to end

If I create a running route in Garmin Connect and then try to follow it on the watch, it generates a route but after about a mile will recalculate and just takes me to the end of the route.

It's on urban roads the whole way with no access restriction. I know I can change it to "follow course", but because Garmin choose to overlay a purple line on a map covered in purple lines it's not the ideal solution.

Not sure if I've got a setting wrong somewhere but I don't think so.

For every activity, you have to select “follow course” in the activity settings - routes - courses - follow course (iso use map)

(names could be different since I use dutch language on my watch.

And you have to set it for every activity, and yes, follow the route would be a more sensible default than use map.

You loose navigate back to route, but as you experienced, that doesn’t work very well anyway.
